Another week of Pick’em is here. I anticipate a full slate of game this week so let’s get after it!

Fenger vs Ellison
I think it’s been proven that I am quite the fan of Fenger already and they have quite the fan club developing. They missed last weeks game and are hungry.
Fenger 42 Ellison 8

Prosser vs Catalyst Maria
Another fan favorite of this selector is Prosser. Star RB Bland has pretty much run wild all season and don’t see that stopping yet. However Maria also has some point scoring ability. I’ll still take Bland as his game is anything but bland
Prosser 42 Marian 28
Bland 245 4 TDs

Mather vs Brooks
Mather forfeited on Monday and you have to worry about potential problems behind the scene after that. Brooks I have heard has a very talented QB. That will be enough to get the job done.
Brooks 22 Mather 0

Morgan Park vs Lane
Hard to figure out Morgan Park, they are a little bit down but have flashed at points. Lost yesterday but played Raby tough. What’s not hard to figure out is Lane. Seems like they need a new voice in the locker room. Morgan Park in a route
Morgan Park 36 Lane 6

Kenwood vs Schurz
Sinque continues to get them boys ready to play! They got #HorsePower
Kenwood 56 Schurz 0

Payton vs Back of the Yards
This projects to be one of the better games of the week. Payton is typically a strong CPS program and BOTY tends to deliver week in and week out as a solid program. This is also a hard one for me to pick. I like Back of the Yards, I don’t like Payton, I love BOTY and I also love Walter Payton.
Payton 36 BOTY 22

Solorio vs Hubbard
Solorio pulled off the upset knocking off Curie. Hubbard forfeited you Simeon. Will Hubbard be rested or rusty? Can’t solorio carry forward the momentum? Those 2 questions will be the difference in this. My take, Hubbard is rested.
Hubbard 24 Solorio 7

Ag Science vs Urban Prep Englewood
I caught Ag Science earlier in the year and was impressed. There are 3 urban preps so I get confused, but I think this is a good one and will be a nail biter.
Ag 14 UPB 12

Clemente vs Washington
I talked to a friend who was at Clemente’s game last week. He was very impressed by Clemente’s RB as well as their big TE/WR who he called Gronk. While they run he’s still unsure how it happened as points just got added onto the scoreboard and no one really knows what happened. Still he says Clemente is a big favorite this week and I believe him.
Clemente 24 Washington 0

Chi Academy vs CICS Longwood
Chi Academy let’s st pats freshman and DePaul play on their field. I don’t like it. Feel like Longwood is a safe pick.
Longwood 24 Chi Academy 14

Bulls vs Rauner
Bulls is my Noble pick to click every week.
Bulls 23 Rauner 2

The Noble Academy vs the Noble Butler
While I love the Noble Bulls football team my 2nd favorite Noble School is Noble Butler, only behind the Noble Johnson. With that being said I tend to be a guy who likes a good sequel so Noble Butler is the pick.
Butler 18 Noble Academy 7

CPL Game of the Week
Curie vs Perspectives
Both teams are coming off of losses, with Curie being a shocker. Curie is knocked out of the playoffs, for the first time in awhile, with Perspectives barely hanging on. Was looking at Twitter this morning and saw Curie Coach La Ray(interesting name La) saying it’s tough times. The only response as of my morning coffee was from a Perspectives player, who was telling him things will be okay. It just seems so weird to me. Talking to the opposing coach, being comforted by an opposing player. I see a lot of hugs at the end of this one and don’t we all just love sportsmanship!
Anyway I’m interested to see what goes on the rest of the week and if anyone’s feathers get ruffled.
Curie 42 Perspectives 28

I am starting to get the hang of this. Anticipating an undefeated week.

Fenger over Ellison - Fenger! Best high school name in Illinois. (Thread Idea??) Best name wins every time in CPL Pick em!

Prosser over Maria - I don't know who this Bland kid is. He sounds like a great player, but I pick Prosser because it's fun to say. The fact that they can play football well is a bonus.

Brooks over Mather - Greg Brooks is a legendary CPS Wrestler, Wrestling Coach, and Wrestling Referee. I don't think Brooks is named after him, but it should be. Take Brooks.

Morgan Park over Lane Tech - Both teams wear green. Looking at the records of these teams, it's not easy being green. With that said, Lane's other color is Myrtle. I had a great aunt named Myrtle. She gave me socks every Christmas. I loved my aunt. I don't love Lane.

Kenwood over Schurz - Schurz is having trouble putting together long offensive drives. They practice on a 70 yard field. Coincidence? Take Kenwood

Back of the Yards over Payton - Payton is concerned about Maxpreps rankings. BOTY is concerned about winning games. BOTY with the win.

Hubbard over Solorio - Hubbard forfeited yesterday to prepare for this game. That's worth something, right? Plus, how do you pronounce Solorio anyway...SolArio? SolOrio?

Ag Science over Urban Prep Englewood - The classic farmers vs. townies battle. I saw Varsity Blues. Ag Science has to have a Billy Bob - type somewhere...Big win for Ag

Clemente over Washington - Points just getting added to the scoreboard? A guy named Gronk? If you tell me they have a QB named Brady, I'll pick them all the way to a State Championship!

Longwood over Chicago Academy - Longwood? Seriously, the jokes write themselves. Going to be a long day for Chicago Academy.

Bulls over. Rauner - Can anyone sponsor a Noble School? If so, the match ups could be epic... Noble Ford vs Noble Chevy. Noble McDonalds vs Noble Burger King. Noble Hogan vs Noble Flair.

Noble Academy over Noble Butler - This one has a distinctly North Shore feel to it. The butler can't afford hot yoga. Pick Academy.

Perspectives over Curie - If the Curie bus breaks down on the way to the game can the coaching staff fix it? They certainly can't fix the big game that Perspectives is about to have this week.

So a quick story to share to set up my picks. It starts as most of my weekends do, sitting at the HarHig. We like to go through the SunTimes and create lines to gamble with throughout CPS. The ring leader is always Big Lou, guy has great skills handicapping some of these crazy games. So I start telling him about this post and how there's a weekly run on the games like we do and the guy completely loses his mind. He's screaming c'mon man, and giving me the first degree as if he holds intellectual property on this. Luckily my buddy Mandingo steps in, he's a great ref. He's able to calm down Big Lou, without threatening him with a skillet. Regardless, JBlazer gets us back on track and we get back to handicapping this weekend's games. As we start to get to some of the West Side games, out of nowhere this beacon of light starts blinding us through the window. Bic Lou decides he's going to crack some jokes about the Ghost of Neilski intervening on behalf of the CPS forgotten, when Walsh starts choking on his Mountain Dew. All of this is right when we start getting all of the emails that CPS is gonna CPS this weekend's game. The hilarity was off the charts. We literally had as much craziness as CPS was about to lay out for us. As we're laughing here comes coach's wife straight up to the bar grabbing him by the ear yelling that he promised her he'd quit drinking in the middle of the day, poor guy probably got beat with a lawn chair as we didn't get to see him at Lane on Monday. Such a crazy night we'll probably just start Friday off at the Windsor Pub to switch up our luck. Which bring me to my picks.. Time for a bit of luck as my picks have not been up to my standard.

I've got Fenger, Prosser, Mather, Morgan Park, Kenwood, BOTY, Hubbard, Ag Sci, Clemente, Longwood, Bulls, Butler and Perspectives.

Good luck this week fellas hope its not as crazy my past weekend.

Lincoln Park vs Raby has some major playoff implications.
Definitely does. But this pick em talked about shedding some light on the programs that don't get bigger exposure. Probably could start a separate thread on the playoff CPS teams that's fine by me, especially as it leads to one of those vaunted Thursday or Friday afternoon 1st Round games. Good ol CPS!

How is Lincoln Park this year? Pretty swanky area of Chicago! Does Raby still have that D1 QB or did he graduate?

LP has been a bit erratic this year, but they don't hang with Raby in my opinion. D1 quarterback? You talking Patterson? He was at Solorio last year, is now at VaTech, played a series or so this past week against the Irish I believe.

Dyett had a big time homecoming win shutout last week, so I'll lean them. Although there's probably a chance they win by forfeit. Quest Academy just sounds like one of those schools that has to forfeit every couple weeks because they don't have enough kids

I disagree I’ve heard Quest is on the comeup. Plus quest is a great word, lazer quest, vision quest, how can you pick against quest!?!

Last week was a surprising win for LP. In my opinion they are down a good bit from last year. The previous 2 seasons they had some really good athletes but most of those kids ha w graduated. They are still pretty disciplined and play solid football but down from where they were when they had kids who could have played at any school in the city, that along with the higher division of play has made it a little rough.

I’m unaware of a d1 qb at raby. Was he a d1 qb or a d1 athlete who plays qb? I did see raby play earlier this year and thought the qb was pretty athletic but did not appear to be a d1 qb. Think they have a wr/dB who might be a d1 kid

Oh it feels good to be back. Since the wife does not care about football other than asking the kids coach why isn't he playing, even though I tell her its none of her bees wax and just face the fact that he is not good enough to start yet, I resort to telling my friends, they get a chuckle out of it when we are all at hot yoga. Anyways, enough about my life. Lets do this.

Fenger over Ellison. The Fenger Fingers, do I need to say more? Fenger is going to be eating some finger sandwiches after putting up many digits on the scoreboard! That last sentence might be the highlight of my life only after inheriting my wife's grandparents trust fund, man was that a wild day.

Prosser over Catalyst Maria. Never met the kid, or heard about him before I hoped on the first thread with you guys, but you must be joking if you vote against him. All aboard the Blandwagon! Choo Choo!

Brooks over Mather. Brooks Haltan from Shawshank redemption was easily my favorite character in that movie. Sad how he ended up killing himself because he couldnt handle the world outside of prison. Look for
Brooks to honor his memory and womp all over Mather.

Morgan Park over Lane Tech. Like I said before, one of the few CPS schools I know, and I know one thing for sure about them: Lane sucks at football and sucks as a school. School of Champions? Maybe in
chess and tennis, but not a real mans spot like football. Morgan Park by 40 at half.

Kenwood over Schurz. Schurz sounds a lot like what my kid was saying when I asked him if he wanted the new iPhone X when it came out recently. He sometimes listen to rap and think he is from the hood but then I promptly that not many kids in the hood have their dad by them 2 (because he crashed the first) fully loaded jeeps and the new iPhone when it comes out every year. He changes his mind after I threaten to take away his $100/day allowance! LOL!!!!

Payton over Back of the Yards. Big fan of Walter Payton. Easily the best of all time in my eyes. Look for Payton to taste sweetness when they win over Back of the Yards. Do they play in a backyard? Are Chicago back yards as big as mine? I could probably fit a football field in mine, but probably not a stadium, not sure how my neighbors who are big time CEOs in the city would like that much. The name Back of the Yards name is really confusing.

Hubbard over Solorio. A quick search on the google machine shows that Solorio's mascot is the Sun Warrior? But they play their games at night? No wonder they have lost. Makes just as much sense as having a Indian as a mascot in this day and age. Just plain stupid!

Ag Science over UP Englewood. Too many Urban Preps for me to understand whats going on. But then again Ag science in the city? This makes more more confused then the time my wife told me she needed to go see our tennis coach at his house on a Saturday night for a private lesson. He didn't have lights on his court so it really threw me for a loop. Oh well, I was able to watch more college football with some piece and quiet.

Clemente over Washington. According to you guys, the reincarnation of gronk plays for Clemente. Not sure if I buy it 100% but ill roll with it. Also, U of Washington is over rated, just like CPS Washington.

Chi Academy over Longwood. Not liking longwood against The academy of Chicago. My wife doesnt like my long wood either. She says something about it not being long and then usually changes subject to her getting more tennis lessons. Its a sad time to be longwood.

Bulls over Rauner. MJ. Enough said. Look for Bulls to put up 23 (points or penalties) against Rauner. Even though im voting Rauner, MJ > Gov. Rauner. Sorry guys.

Noble Academy over Butler. Screw Butler for not sending my kid an acceptance letter, even after I told them I would donate a brand new dorm for them. Guess my money isn't green to them. Noble Academy with a running clock.

Perspectives over Curie. Guys, ill tell you one thing, I really hate curry sauce. Like I cant stand the smell. One time we had a Foreign Exchange student and he loved it. Nice kid but was glad to see him leave after the school year ended. I took all the curry sauce and threw it into the woods behind my house. Then the raccoons started eating it and would throw up curry sauce next to my hot tub in my back yard. Couldn't even use it until i got the maid service to come out and clean it up. Really threw off my routine for a few days. Curry is similar to Curie. All I have to say is yuckkkkkk.

I think I got the teams mixed up. Last year Solorio QB, but I was thinking that Raby had a D1 kid making waves, but I could be wrong! That’s why I need to follow this pickem thread! Teams with some college recruits might be safer to pick when I know nothing about the teams themselves!

Raby has a CB committed to NIU, name is Romel Goston. So many reasons to follow this thread. I’ll put you down for a Raby win this week!

Man all this rain has been really rough on pipes lately. I’ve been up to my elbows in work. I tell you some of these people are real dumb and over pay me to get all that funk out of their drains. But the garbage that I deal with is nowhere near as disgusting as the fact that all those CPS games got cancelled the other week. There are gunshots outside of the great gately stadium almost every night but they decided to care about it that weekend? I am at a loss. Anyways, back to the meat and potatoes (mashed preferably) of the week, CPL pickem!!!!!!

Fenger vs Ellison
It can not be overstated just how much fenger sounds like finger. I have 10 fingers still, Rahim Emmanuel only has 9.5. Maybe I should be mayor! ROFL! I’d bring back the super bowl shuffle and zoobas. Fenger eats Chicago style roast beef with their fingers and gets a big w over Ellison .

Prosser vs Catalyst Maria
I’m no grammar whiz, but Bland is a cinnamon for boring but this bland guy is somehows exciting? I don’t think Catalyst Maria is a school famous for they’re grammar either, they are too puzzled to stop the run game. My head hurts now.

Mather vs Brooks
Mather forfeited? I’ve never really heard of them but I guess they are pretty far north so I’m not surprised. Maybe they are too upset about the lame cubs to play. Brooks wins.

Morgan Park vs Lane
Morgan Park has worried me lately, but Lane is a typical nerd school. I’m surprised they still play football. Stick to the ACT dweebs.

Kenwood vs Schurz
Kenwood looks unstoppable. A dark horse to win state perhaps? I’m Schurz that they continue the roll. Ha! Puns are awesome.

Payton vs Back of the Yards
Walter Payton was a great football player, but he grew up in a different state, he’s not a tough city kid like the kids from BOTY. And he died, the stockyards will never die!

Solorio vs Hubbard
Hubbard really upset me by forfeiting. I hate quitters. It’s why I’ll never stop smoking and dipping. It’s the only thing keeps me sane at this point. That and CPL pickem! I’m going with Solorio.

Ag Science vs Urban Prep Englewood
Hmmm I do like Englewood, a real salt of the earth community. But it’s something about those aggies that make me want to keep rolling with em.

Clemente vs Washington
I would not be surprised at the amount of illegitimate children Gronk has. Dude likes to party. I like to party too. Going with Gronk at Clemente. Let’s get drunk!

Chi Academy vs CICS Longwood
I may have gone overboard with the p and d comments last week. But Longwood is too great of a pun to pass up. If you pick against Longwood It’s because you don’t have Longwood. Idk about you but I’m a frickin stallion mane.

Bulls vs Rauner
Bulls has been on a roll. Rauner is in the middle of an election. Bulls are gonna keep winning championships.

The Noble Academy vs the Noble Butler
I really like Jimmy Butler when he was on the bulls. I’m mad they trade him from some skinny kid who’s name I can’t pronounve. As Stacey king says, THE BUTLER DID IT! Butler wins LOL

CPL Game of the Week
Curie vs Perspectives
His nickname is La Ray? Is that as in like Los Angeles or like how Spanish people talk? Los Angeles is a worse city than Chicago by a lot and I don’t speak Spanish so I’m going with Perspectives.

Standard operating procedure on max preps unfortunately which I believe IHSA has relied on in the past. Game is Saturday 12pm at the newly renovated Eckersall stadium.

Quick week 8 recap.

Ellison was scared of getting fing...I mean they were scared of Fenger and decided to call it a season. Fenger ended up playing Speer and I hear it went poorly for Fenger.

I was unable to find a score for the big Butler vs THE NOBLE ACADEMY game.

Otherwise the only big upset was Solorio beating Hubbard. It’s been a crazy few weeks in the top 2 CPS conferences with many upsets of late. The biggest upset of the week still may be the Raby LP game. I definitely did not see that coming.

We have a smaller week 9 for CPL games as some teams have already concluded their seasons.

Stay tuned for Week 9 pick’em coming soon!
