Phillips High School has half the enrolment that it did over a decade ago yet the teaching staff is still about the same size. That's what is wrong with CPS.

95% of teachers voted to strike, I wonder what the actual number would be if they did a secret ballot instead of passing a petition around in public.

If the strike happens on the 11th, the Curie vs Simeon game which is on the 13th would be in jeopardy. Should be a good game, has been the last couple years as far as CPS football is involved.

Why is there a school of 500 kids even open in the city?? Seems crazy that there are CPS schools in 5A and below in football when the rest of the state is closing and consolidating (LWN)..

Unlike the rest of the world or state, combining two CPS schools may result in students getting killed!

Is there any precedence as to what the wizards at the IHSA would do in a situation like this regarding the playoff?

Long time troller, first time poster.

Just last year ESL, a 6A-sized school who petitions to play up a class, went on strike and had to forfeit their final 5 games. No playoffs.

When city teams lost four games to a teachers' strike in 1987, the IHSA board gave them the option of playing extra makeup games. Lane and Tilden did so and qualified for the playoffs.

"We would play the regular varsity team on Saturday; and in the midweek makeup game, we played all the kids who didn't play on Saturday," Karlov said. "As long as we won our conference (automatic playoff berth), we didn't care if we lost those makeup games. They were simply to qualify with the necessary eight games.

"If we're forced to play one makeup game, that would mean playing four games in two weeks while competing in the Public League and state playoffs. The kids in the city always have it tough."

The CTU wants you and I, and by that I mean people outside Chicago, to help pay their salaries and pensions.

I get that, they did not make the playoffs. Looks like CPS will strike after week 7? If both games become forfeits, there will be some weeding out, but if the strike continues do those CPS teams that would have made it forfeit the playoff game?

Only reason why I read this thread was because your handle appeared in the thread description.

Love it. Love the handle, too.
