I have no idea what to expect from our baseball team going forward in this season. It has been such a crazy year of ups and downs. In the SEC We win 3 out of 4 road series, three of which are sweeps!(2 us and 1 them) Lose 2 home series amongst the 2 road sweeps. I almost feel better about the bama series on the road than home against the vols.

Ultimately though, hitting is still the primary concern despite the lopsided victory against auburn on sunday. The first two games we still did not exactly light up the woods with the sticks. One other observation from this weekend is that it appears that big wes might be relegated to platoon status at first baseman going forward.

Hope we can keep it going but then we've said that many times this season only to take yet another step back. Great job against AU but if I can be a pessimist for just a moment, my fear is that they (aubie) looked a bit like a team that has already given up and if so what does this series really indicate for us? I suppose we will find out.

Here's the thing... we've lost five games this year by 1 run and then another four by 3 runs or less. Before anyone jumps me about how we've won a lot of close games this year too, that's not my point. My point is that while our hitting has indeed been atrocious this year, we're still not really all that far away offensively from having a very strong overall record. Improve just a little bit and this team can be extremely dangerous. Don't improve and we could end up ending our season with a frustrating 2-1 loss.

The other nice note is that we've got a lot of really young players in the top half of our offensive stats, so the future looks bright as those guys develop over the years. On the other side of things, the sobering note is that while we're getting essentially our entire pitching staff back next year, we're going to basically lose out entire staff after next year. If I'm looking at it right, Lindgren, Laster, Mitchell, Holder, Cox, Fitts, and Woodruff will all graduate next year.

The simple answer is its a prettt deep and pretty average conf. Om is definitely better than us but we have both made a killing off some bad and average teams.

Think about the pitching. Is there a starter outside of nola that you fear? Is there a reliever that is automatic other than lindgren? Im sure we can debate it but when has this ever been the case?

I would def

expect Lindgren, Mitchell, & Woodruff to be gone. Fitts and Cox aren't probably too far away, either.

We have feasted on the cellar dwellers.....

Our two sweeps have come from the two worst teams in the league.

In the west we have only taken series from the current #6 and #7 teams and lost to the #1, #3 and #5 with two of them at home. We were swept by #3 and saved by a miracle comeback from being swept by #1. We have yet to play the west #4.

In the east we have won every series but thus far only played their current #2, #6 and #7. We have yet to play the east #4.

Vandy, whom we met very early on is, is the only series we have won against a team that currently has an SEC record above .500. The good news there might be that UT also has a losing SEC record and Bama might as well by the time we get them.

Just putting it all in perspective, we are ahead of where we were last year at this time but with a much weaker schedule.

To be gone after this year? I'm not sure on Mitchell leaving early. I'll be pretty surprised if Woodruff on Lindgren are at MSU next year. Holder is probably 50/50 in my mind.

Alabama had

the great fortune of starting off with a relatively easier schedule, but the backend has proven (as thought) to be killer. L 2/3 to USC, sweep at UF, and the are at LSU this weekend. Hopefully their spirits will be down when we come to town. Unfortunately, we always struggle with them.

OM has UGA at home and then @ A&M. Would be great if they dropped two to UGA this weekend.
