I have nothing against Huss, but as I posted a few months ago I think this was a dumb route to finding a new coach. Should have cast a wide net and if Huss emerges as the best candidate, fine. But with the Big East having a sweet TV deal and Creighton basketball being the biggest thing in town, I think better candidates would have been interested.
I'm not sure Creighton could pluck a coach away from Indiana, but there would have been interest from some decent names. Hopefully Huss works out, but I think this might go a lot like Kyle Neptune's brief run at Villanova.
I am surprised more don't "retire" sooner.
I know that people on this board think that 10-15 million dollars is not a lot of money but these guys are pretty much set for life by the time they start their second contract.
Plus you can always do a podcast or TV gig.
Well, they can hire him in two seasons when IU fires him. The only reason he will get two more years is because Cigs made IU football a big deal.

If those jobs open it means that Oates from Bama is gone to one of them. Golden from UF is gone to one of them. It will trigger lots of openings.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic but it was evident last year when Huss was brought back and named coach in waiting.
20 wins in 14 of the 16 years there, 12 NCAA tourney wins, one basket away from reaching the final 4, moved the program from Mid-major to top 1/3 of the Big East, and interestingly has been UConn’s kryptonite. Hate the school if you want but can’t hate the coach that he is.

Heck of a run to be the all time leader in wins at CU. The ol’ Bohemian had 327 wins.
This. McDermott did a great job at Creighton. Plus, he's a really good dude. Happy that he's going out on his own terms.

Didn't he lose in the tourney to a low major and another low major? Was that "one basket away" a loss to a low major team?
Mac is a great offensive minded coach and Creighton is going to miss him. I really think they take a step backwards with Huss. If you’re a school in a conference like the Big East you need to find a guy who has some clout. IMO, Huss can’t compete against the likes of Pitino, Hurley and even Willard. Mac had a brand, and that was fast paced ball running the floor and having good shooters. Huss is an unknown.
We’d be a tough out every night if he was on our team this year.

He is not retiring, he is running. If they are just going to tuck tail and run then fold the Creighton program and send their resources to Lincoln.
