How about regaining confidence? Back to the unabridged Croom: "The first thing I talked to them about this morning, I told them point blank, guys, I
can't give you confidence. If I could, I'd pour it in your brain and pour it all over you. That's not mine to give.

That's a load of crap. True story about Jackie's first year. My Dad called Jim Ellis right before the season started. He wanted to know how we would
be. Mr. Ellis told him we had the players to be "okay" but Jackie had the players thinking they could beat the New York Giants.

A coach can instill confidence. Or vice versa...he can take it away. Crooms has taken it away with all his crap.

in them, considering some of the dumbass calls he makes from time to time in critical situations. And he expects them to become confident in the light of that??

Grasping at straws I tell ya...grasping at straws.

Edit to say: Cherry picking that quote made it seem a lot worse. The whole quote is not as bad as what you just posted but a coach is responsible for confidence.

he'll be open to a doable buyout. I hope Byrne is making preparations just in case. If we can catch him at the right moment, he might ink a buyout package this year that we [meaning monied donors, not "we" as in people on this board, except porkchop] can actually pay.

from the 30 when down by 3 scores? Or when he elects to take a field goal from the goal line when down by 2 td's? The man is a moron in every sense of the word. He's just pulling stuff out of his *** at this point.

...on him, and how he was going to have to evaluate himself. I know we're all pissed, and we're all in pile on mode, but don't be ridiculous.

Croom continues to blame players for mental mistakes in crucial situations. Whose damn job is it to teach and coach these players to do things properly? If the players are consistently making these mistakes, it can only be one person's fault.

and instill confidence in a group of 17-21 year olds week in and week out. Seriously, has anyone ever been able to?

Its not his job to motivate? That may have been the dumbest thing he has ever said. Thats exactly what his job is- to motivate and teach. Thats what a goddamn coach does. Those two things. But he isnt doing either, thats for sure.

An NFL coach doesn't have to do a lot of motivating. The fact that if a player doesn't perform, he's going to lose his 6-8 figure-paying damn job is plenty of motivation for an NFL player. In college, the coach better be able to motivate his team, because the risk of losing a free education just doesn't have the same impact for the average college player.

the straw that breaks the camels back. As a college coach your job is to motivate and teach. That's really it? Motivate and make sure the kids are confident. It's a diffrent ballgame in the pro's. Pack your bags meat whistle, your act is old.
