Why are we paying him $1.7 million?

That's a .360 winning percentage.

That's $94,444 per win.

That's $53,125 per loss.

I wish I could draw that kind of salary for underachieving.

Actually it is worse than that....you are only taking this years salary into account in your calcs.

Assumptions:
2004-900K
2005-900K
2006-950K
2007-950K
Cumulative Total: 3.7M

Record over his 1st 4 years: 17-30 (W-L)
So over the last 4 years his salary on a per game basis:
78,723 dollars deposited after each game (whether win or loss) at First National Bank of Tuscaloosa

So he has made: 2,364,300 for his 30 losses and 1,335,700 for his 17 wins

This year (2008) however he is going to make: 141,666 per game, so he got a raise of (180% on a per game basis) 62,943 per game for having a .361 career winning pct

We have to pay him what we are to show we can keep up with the rest of the conference. When it is time to go out and get a new coach we need coaches to look at us and not think they will be underpaid. Is he worth it? No. Do we have a choice? no

What about the games he "should have lost"? Ole Miss, Auburn, and Alabama 2007 you could arguably all say games that should have been lost.

I would trade those 3 games for the other ones we should have won throughout the Croom era. 3 vs. 12 or so? No brainer.

But that logic is flawed. That's why you play game. He lost those 12 games, and won the 3 you mentioned, and that's how it is.
