Croom Pats Himself on the Back for Great Career at MSU
We were on the right track. I have no doubt about that.
That makes one of us.
"I think some of the myths about minorities not being able to function or lead a program, particularly in the South ... I think we destroyed those," Croom said.
Whatever you want to tell yourself big guy. I'm sure that stellar 21-38 record makes other AD's salivate to hire minorities.

In fact, this is what pisses me off the most about his tenure. He had an opportunity that he talked about on the Say It Loud program to further AA coaching prospects and be a leader to some of these kids "who had never before seen a black man in a position of authority" and he chose loyalty to Woody McCorvery and a stupid failed offense over those two very important things. You failed miserably, Croom, and don't insult MSU by acting like that record is somehow considered success in Starkville.

And this is what I find most interesting:
Croom resigned after being informed by new Mississippi State athletic director Greg Byrne that he planned to go in another direction.
Just can''t take the bullet can you big man? You got your buyout money to say you resigned, but once again, you have too much pride. Every interview I've seen has him busting at the seems to get it out there that he was fired without really saying it. Finally it comes out in an article but it doesn't have any quotes around there. Nice job.

Is that Croom could consistently pull in pretty good recruiting classes (ie top 35 or so) and then still lose games to LA Tech, Maine, UAB, etc. and now he talks about how impossible it was to win at MSU. It is only impossible to win if you suck as a coach.

I cannot believe I blindly supported him for so long thinking things could change. They really sold our fanbase on the We are MSU and Wo is Us mantra.

I hated everything about the Croom tenure. I hated the reason he was hired, the way he was hired, the way he showed favoritism, the uniforms, the dead game day atmospheres, the way he represented the school.

People may question that last one. Not that a black man can't lead our football team. It's that he represented losing and accepting that role, and made everybody believe it was ok because we are MSU.

In other words: I resigned when they told me I was being fired.

....he has already convinced himself that he did a good job at State. He just can't admit that he failed. Just be a man and take responsibility and say that you failed. Trying to spin his tenure into "we were on the right track, they just made me leave before I could finish the job" and "It is in better shape than it was when I got it" is ridiculous.

Can't you say you regret not winning more games or making some tough decisions before year 5 of 100 + offense? No. You did nothing wrong. They just made you leave.

I swear. I have lost almost all respect for this man.

...why cant he come out and say that he could have done better but was too damn stubborn to change. He is really high on himself, and for no good reason. Good man. Dont think so.

Remember he was on the 10 year plan... We just didn't give him enough time...

it's gone from "i like him as a person but not a coach" to flat-out hate. I can't stand the sight of that bastard, the sound of his voice or the mentioning of his name. I was in McDonalds in Starkville yesterday and they had this bunk-*** picture of the stadium and like 5 different shots of Croom and it made me so mad looking at that guy. What a complete douchebag.</p>

I'll say this. I like him a lot more now that he's not employed by MSU. Let him run his mouth. It doesn't matter now, and anything he says isn't going to be of any consequence. Croom is dead to me.
