After reading the Muschamp thread, it got me to thinking....of the country's top coaches, how many are offensive vs defensive? (Just off the top of my head)

SEC:

Spurrier- offense
Richt- offense
Meyer- offense
Miles- offense
Tubby- defense
Saban- defense

Big 12:

Pinkel- offense
Brown- offense
Leach- offense
Stoops- defense
Mangino- offense
Ok St- ??

Pac-10:

Belotti- offense
Cal- offense
Neuhuisal- offense
Carroll- defense

ACC:

Bowden- offense (fired)
Bowden- offense (the old one)
Shannon- defense
BC's coach- offense
Beamer- defense

Big 10:

Rodriguez- offense
Tressell- ??

The trend is that the offensive coaches dominate the top conferences in college football

with bad play calling</p>
to me that is the offense in a nut shell. call it spread, I-formation, WCO, or whatever you want. our current offense does not work and is the wrong one. hell even croom keeps changing his mind as to what he calls the abomination we are running.

we're running the WCO FOREVER, and then all of a sudden he decides that we're running the spread, and now who knows what he wants to call it this week. All I know is that our offense now has changed very little if at all since he got here.

Of the top teams in each conf. the best of the best always have a great D.

SEC:

Spurrier- offense (not dominating anything now)
Richt- offense (doing it with an offense and great D)
Meyer- offense (no comment)
Miles- offense (doing it with a dominant D)
Tubby- defense
Saban- defense

Big 12:

Pinkel- offense
Brown- offense
Leach- offense
Stoops- defense has dominated the Big 12 of late
Mangino- offense
Ok St- ??

Pac-10:

Belotti- offense
Cal- offense
Neuhuisal- offense
Carroll- defense and blows the rest of the field away

ACC:

Bowden- offense (fired)
Bowden- offense (the old one)
Shannon- defense
BC's coach- offense
Beamer- defense

Big 10:

Rodriguez- offense
Tressell- ??

many of you try to twist what i'm saying on the offense vs defense issue....it goes without saying these guys are hiring very good DC's to make their programs top level...
my point is though is that the HEAD COACH at many of the top programs is an offensive guy...

I have been thinking about this also, and firmly believe we need to hire an EXPERIENCED..SUCCESSFUL..offensive coach.
Finding a great dc truly isn't that hard for a team in the SEC, its what the sec is about..any good one wanting to elevate himself would come.
But we have to have a GREAT offensive mind, as offense is the one thing in state history has never been overly good.

...who will turn the offense over to a "specialist" and let him run it. I don't want my head coach dabbling in my offense. I'd rather have a HC dabbling in a defense if he has to. Many offensive minded head coaches want to run the show, and that is a problem.

an offensive coordinator and let them do their thing. If the offense is sucking, and the defense is saving there *** (Tubby) then the HC will pull the trigger on the OC much quicker. It can be vice versa, but to me great defenses can still produce w's when your offense is average at best. That cannot be said for our current situation.

be organized and focused...defensive side role is to create havoc and disorganization and get the opposing offense unfocused....HC has too many other roles to be that intertwined with the offense...he needs to be cut some slack to deal with the other ********, while the OC needs to be solely involved with the offenses' focus. Croom is too stupid to know that. It's best to have a defensive guy who is smart enought to hire the right OC and to fire the wrong one....(hint)...his name is Saban. I'm talking philosophy, not people. Croom is too stupid to know that.

The Kang didn't get overly mettled in offense or defense. He gave his attention to special teams. Just sayin you don't need one or the other.

we need a coach who is skilled at his specialization, whether it be offense or defense, that surrounds himself with a good staff.

more importantly, we need someone who is flexible and willing to adapt his strategy based on the skill he obtains. we don't have the talent to win the west but we do have the talent to make a bowl. winning consistently will change that for the better.

CREATIVITY. that's what we need. offensive minded, defensive minded...doesn't matter. as long as he has an imagination things should work out in time with decent recruiting.

There's a defensive coach currently working under Sean Payton who has also worked for Pete Carroll and also has SEC experience. He's familiar with the area and is a great recruiter. I highly recommend him.

What's his name again...?
