If, at the end of the season, [changing coaches] needs to be done, I will do what needs to be done to keep our program. Right now, I don't see that need. I don't see that need. So I'm not going to do that.
And this beaut...
I feel better about what we're doing [offensively] than anytime since we've been here. And that's what's frustrating about that. Because I know what we're doing is the right thing. We're not getting it executed, we're having a combination of things happen at different times.
Unreal.

Croom is either completely oblivious or likes rubbing crap in our faces.

It's almost like he thinks he is Moses out building a boat for a heavy rain. The more we disagree with him the more he thinks we are wrong and the more he tries to tell us "the right thing" is going to get us there. The right thing is to get out of dodge with his millions and leave us ignorant MSU fans without the greatest coach ever. I mean, he was working for the NFL and clearly us hillbillies can't understand the complexity of it all.

His ego has no bounds.

have no greater friends than the media. Without consistent questioning from KV and Brad and the others, Croom would simply waltz through this season knowing there was zero public accountability for this farce of an offense.

I'm grateful for the consistent questions. At some point, I expect another full blown, post-Tulane-game, media-inspired, meltdown that sets the wheels in motion for Byrne to do what needs to be done.

the more he grasps for words, much less a limb, or even a twig, the further he sinks. His pride, arrogance, and bullhead have never been more apparent...this man is going to crack before it's over, maybe after the Vandy game, or MTSU. That should be fun.

his mouth has written a lot of checks his *** can't cash right now. it will be interesting indeed if the wheels come completely off and we are sitting at 1-9. i would like to see him try to blame it on execution then.

The offense, as far as receivers go, is better than it's ever been. The O-line, not so much. However, whether the system is right, that's a whole nuther subject.

Yes, of course, exactly. I'm the offensive coordinator, I'm the bus driver, I'm the equipment man, the lawn guy, I'm the secretary. I'm everything. Because whatever's not going right, it's me. And people - I constantly get the question, well, 'What changes are we going to make?' 'What changes are we going -' I'm not going to make changes just to be making changes, you know? I could get upset and go out there 'Well, I'm going to change, put this player on the bench, get rid of this coach, or -' But, if I don't see that as a problem, why do that? I don't make changes just to be making changes. There has to be a reason for making changes. That's what I meant by that. And as far as when it goes - and the other things is - when it goes to changes as far as the coaching staff and that kind of thing, every year, at the end of the season, I sit down, and talk to each coach. And I personally do go over what I think are evaluations. I've made changes in the past when I felt like they were warranted. And had specific reasons. If, at the end of the season, that needs to be done, I will do what needs to be done to keep our program. Right now, I don't see that need. I don't see that need. So I'm not going to do that. At the same time, I do want people to understand, too, that is a decision that I have to make. And if it needs to be done, I'll make those decisions when the time comes. But right now I want our coaches and players to know that I have confidence in them. And that I expect them to continue to fight on, continue to do their job on a day-by-day, and do it with enthusiasm. It's pretty hard to do those kinds of things with enthusiasm if the coaches and players are worried about me walking in, making a change with them. That's the only way we're going to get out of this, is for our coaches and players to continue to play and work with great enthusiasm, great intensity, then I think we've got a chance to come out of this. Offensively, we are - I feel better about what we're doing than anytime since we've been here. And that's what's frustrating about that. Because I know what we're doing is the right thing. We're not getting it executed, we're having a combination of things happen at different times.
...I read this as follows: "If, at the end of the season, changes need to be made, and coaches need to be fired, I'll make that decision. But there's no reason to do it in the middle of the season, and I don't want to talk about it during the season while I am asking them to work hard with confidence."

If that is what he is saying, I agree 100%. Is he still incompetent? Yes. Could he redeem himself by getting rid of a couple of coaches and bringing in a new coordinator? Absolutely. Is this likely to happen? No, but at least he, for the first time, says it could.

I was actually kinda relieved when i read these quotes. I figured it was gonna be some kind of blanket "I will never fire Woody" kindof comment. At least this quote tells me that he is still trying to salvage the season. The last interview made me think he was waiting for the buyout. It sounds like at least he is open to some ideas now. That doesnt mean he will make the changes that must be made, but its a start. And about the offense....if you could somehow manage to convert some short yardage third downs and return the defense to its Auburn status, we might even win three or four more.

...his callous response might be to the idea of making changes in the middle of the season. And I don't blame him for not doing that, and I don't blame him for not wanting to undermine his coaches like that. Obviously, he could've answered better - like he finally did today, but we all know he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

...it's nice to get a shred of rational thought out of the man. The thing is, is that I am sure that he IS the offensive coordinator, and Woody is not an OC in the traditional sense, and that all plays run through Croom and all that. And that's fine, but if you are going to publicly call Woody the OC, and PAY HIM like he is the OC, then he is going to take the heat like any OC that was putting out results like we have. Croom should've just called himself the OC and made Woody the QB coach and assisstant head coach. Then, he could go "hire an OC" without firing Woody. He screwed up in how he set this up.

So am I to gather from this that Croom does not see LOSING as a legitimate reason for making a change?

Being that our offense has not cracked the Top 100 in total offense in 4 years, yet McCorvey was evaluated well enough to warrant a pay raise, I would just love to know what Croom "thinks" are evaluations.

I know that some people grasp at straws to make Croom look like an idiot, but my god. This guy does an amazing job on his own at times.

Croom's past the point of redeeming himself by bringing in a new coordinator. We're in year 5 of terrible offenses. As far as I'm concerned, Crxxm put his neck on the line by keeping Woody this long. It's too late to make everything right just by firing him now. If our offense continues to be this bad and we continue to lose games this season, I won't be satisfied with anything short of Crxxm's resignation.

....and I'll certainly be at that point if we go 2-10 or 3-9, however, most people on this board and elsewhere have said that if he would 1)Get rid of Woody, 2) hire an OC, and 3) get out of the offense, people still feel like he could be successful. There is obviously not much hope with the current setup.
