Any reason other than distance that the state quarterfinals shouldn't be cross bracketed?
Seems like if you have a really strong region you are just out of luck while a weak region gets an underserving semifinal spot.

I can see both sides. Yes it does seem unfair if you have a situation where two given teams are the strongest in the state, yet one eliminates the other early because they are in the same region. But on the other hand, depending on how you cross-bracket and when you start it, you could hypothetically have a weekend where there could be 6-8 teams making 300 mile trips and I guess some people consider that too great a sacrifice.

Just cross bracket like they do in every other sport in the quarterfinals....
You would probably have to use regional seeds to do A vs. B

A1 vs B2
A2 vs. B1

1A needs to be more competitive from the quarterfinals on....... You get a weak region in there you skate through the semis doesn't seem like a good system.

Never cared for cross-bracketing personally as I don't see the reasoning behind it.

But, I would like to see the VHSL rotate state semifinal games because this would provide for some fresh matchups and allow for fans and players to visit a different school that they may not normally play.

2022 - A vs. B, C vs. D
2023 - A vs. C, B vs. D
2024 - A vs. D, B vs. C

And then repeat the pattern in 2025.

I'm with you. I'd be perfectly fine with them going back to alternating the semifinal matchups each year

I didn't like the cross bracketing at first, but then it grew on me after a while. Overall I liked the East/West breakdown more than the 4 region breakdown.

East/West was great for the matchups it created. Would much rather see that than the regionals. For example, look to 3B this year on why sectionals or cross bracketing may be a good idea. One team entered the playoffs with an above .500 record

I loved it because it more often than not brought about matchups we had never seen before and will, in many cases, probably never see again. The school I followed sat right on the border to dividing line and it was so cool to see them playing Essex, Northumberland, Charles City etc..
