Hopefully Mullen doesn't let what happened to Croom happen to him.

Pride will do it. Pride that y ou know best and "they" don't know what their talking about.

Ha...I think that Mullins will make changes and we'll be "ok", but he needs to check the lesson of Croom / McCorvey.

I hope there is a come to Jesus moment between Stricklin and Mullen where Stricklin tells Mullen that Koenning and Hevesy will be let go. We won't fire Mullen this year but the staff works at the pleasure of the athletic department, not the head coach.

Everybody is blaming Koenning, but Koenning is just following Mullen's plan. I don't think anybody on this board really knows how the game plan develops between Koenning and Mullen. I think Mullen would be more upset if Koenning did anything that Mullen didn't agree with. I agree about Hevesy.

In hindsight, reporters should have been more persistent when

asking who calls the plays? Before the season Mullin and Koening dodged the question saying stuff like it doesn't matter.

Now, it matters.

I am a Mullen fan but he needs to get rid of most of our offensive staff. If he does not he can go the Croom way

You are smart enough to understand that. I am smart enough to understand that. But 99% of people on the message boards are not.

I will be the first to admit that my technical knowledge of the game of football is small in comparison to others due to never playing organized football. But I will add my half cent anyways.

I seem to remember that our offense usually starts out very strong on the first couple of possessions. Seems like you can always count on a pretty solid opening drive even if it doesnt result in a score. This being said it seems that we start out with a good game plan and once the defense figures our plan out we can't adjust to that within the game. This to me would be a play calling situation. With Mullens openly admitting in todays press conference that he calls the plays I believe this one is on him. While I am sure Mullen doesn't exclusively call every single play, Les will have some input.

Perhaps the game starts with Les calling the plays and then after a bad series Mullen will get hot and take over calling plays for the rest of the game. This is just pure speculation but hey this is a message board.

Exactly! Mullen likes Les because he will do just as instructed. This is Mullen's offense. He plans it and he calls it. Les perfect for Mullen. He's at the end of his career and don't have any aspirations to "make a name for himself." Hiring a bright, young OC would not work for Mullen because he would have to give up some control of the offense. It's the same way Urban treated Mullen to an extent. Dan resents Urban for it. But he is cut from the same clothe. His approach is to have an OC who does not desire control, hence Les. I wish people would stop blaming Les and Tyler. They are just being who they are directed and coached to be. But if it gives you another year of hope (although its false hope), keep giving Mullen a pass.

I always thought Mullen was a very handson, controlling coach

and can't imagine him giving Koenning too much room to operate.

To me it makes sense that DM controls the play calling and and game plan where LK is more responsible for the players being able to execute said plays. Either way, LK is not getting it done.

Les is doing what he is told to do and Hevesy and Mullen are calling all the shots. Blaming Koenig is ridiculous and we have fools who are too dumb to know that. Dan has abandoned the offense that won for him and worked at Florida with Tebow to try and prove he can coach a drop back pro style offense. It ain't working and the smart football minds know it.

Croom defended McCorvey so his best friend could continue to get a paycheck. McCorvey kept his job because of the color of his skin. Croom was the worst head coach in the past 50 years at MSU.
