Cruz's idea of paying for the wall with Cartel money may have gotten a boost

Why don't we use that $ to pay down debt? Build roads? etc.
All of a sudden GOP members of Congress just can't spend money fast enough.

Should edit to read SOME GOP members. Thankfully we still have a bunch of sane adults in Congress.

Because of national security. Build a wall where needed. Slow down illegal immigration, slow down drug flow, hopefully stop any possibility of terrorists coming across that border.

This is primarily a Mexican problem, let their drug lords pay for it.

The Feds don't use confiscated assets to pay down the debt, why start now? Apparently border security is not important to you, but it is to most Americans.

Illegal immigration is at it's lowest rates, there is no more of a national security issue now than there was when illegal immigration was higher under W and Obama., it's just about Trump doing what he said he would at this point.

You failed to mention drugs, gang infiltration, and possible terrorists. This is a national security issue.

And the only reason illegal immigration is down, is because of trumps rhetoric.

Hey guys, immigration is down and it'll stay at these historically low levels forever, even if a welfare spending, big govt. liberal somehow get elected again...trust me I promise. [eyeroll]

Hmmmmm. Maybe the Negotiator in Chief should have done a better job with the spending bill then, eh?

October is not too far away when new budget approved. Money could not be spent now because the plans are not finalized. The wall will be built where needed. Not sure why you want open borders with all the drugs, gang violence and possible terrorists coming across.

He wants open borders because he's a communist and mass immigration weakens nation states and moves them further along towards his desired utopian (myth) dream.

I don't. I think a federal boondoggle like this is a waste of time, money and resources.

The Border Patrol Union is in favor of the wall. They know all the assets we could utilize and still want a wall, where it makes sense. I agree that a wall doesn't; make sense over the entire distance, but it is a great deterrent where needed, particularly the wall impervious to explosions, with electron sensors and other very sophisticated detection devices. They know the problem and the solution far better than you or me.

1. There are explicit restrictions to block the border wall. We knew last week there would be no money to start construction on a project that the president says is more important to his base than anything else. But the final agreement goes further, putting strict limitations on how Trump can use new money for border security (e.g. to invest in new technology and repair existing fencing). Administration officials have insisted they already have the statutory authority to start building the wall under a 2006 law. This prevents such an end run.

The $1.5 billion for border security is also half as much as the White House requested. Additionally, there are no cuts in funding to sanctuary cities, something a federal judge said last week would be required for the Justice Department to follow through on its threats. And there is also no money for a deportation force.

2. Non-defense domestic spending will go up, despite the Trump team’s insistence he wouldn’t let that happen. The president called for $18 billion in cuts. Instead, he’s going to sign a budget with lots of sweeteners that grow the size of government. Mitch McConnell made sure $4.6 billion got put aside to permanently extend health benefits to 22,000 retired Appalachian coal miners and their families. Nancy Pelosi made sure $295 million was included to shore up Medicaid in Puerto Rico. Chuck Schumer got $61 million to reimburse local law enforcement agencies for the cost of protecting Trump when he travels to his residences in Florida and New York. There is also another $2 billion in disaster relief money for states, which bought a couple votes. (Kelsey Snell, our lead budget reporter, has more examples.)

3. Barack Obama’s cancer moonshot is generously funded. The administration asked to slash spending at the National Institutes of Health by $1.2 billion for the rest of this fiscal year. Instead, the NIH will get a $2 billion boost — on top of the huge increase it got last year. Republican appropriators who care about biomedical research, including Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) and Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), delivered.

Trump also failed in his efforts to cut money for other kinds of scientific inquiry. For example, he proposed defunding the Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy. Instead, it is getting a $15 million increase.

4. Trump fought to cut the Environmental Protection Agency by a third. The final deal trims its budget by just 1 percent, with no staff cuts. As part of a compromise, the EPA gets $80 million less than last year, but the budget is $8 billion.

5. He didn’t defund Planned Parenthood. Despite the best efforts of social conservatives, the group will continue to receive funding at current levels.

Looks like he caved quite a bit on this agreement.

Their has to be a physical barrier, be it a wall, a fence of some sort or we dig a moat and turn Mexico and Central America into a friggin island, IDGAF but something has to be done.

Increase penalties for companies hiring illegals, increase the border police. Use better technology, drones, etc.

What does the Border Patrol Union disagree with you? Do you know more about what is going on on that border than they do?

Wait until the budget is passed in October. That will tell the tale.

Maybe they want to make their jobs easier? Isn't that what unions do? Not sure why this group is the be all end all, but somehow I bet you disagree with a majority of NASA and EPA employees. Should we listen to those groups on their issues or just the ones that agree with your POV?

Make their jobs easier as in dying less? As in being shot at less? As in seeing fewer dead bodies of illegals trying to cross the border? As in seeing less drugs cross the border? Why are libs so against the wall? They are the open border crowd, that alone should tell you something. Why is Mexico against the wall? That should tell you something. Neither of them care a whit about money. Why do you have locks on your doors at home? Why do rich people have walls around their homes? They work.
