Am I the only one who thinks "The Drive" segment s a waste of prime programming space? "Friday Night Lites" is only a 30 minute program to begin with. Subtract commercials and "The Drive", and we're left with less than 20 min of actual "Lites". I'd rather see Comcast cover more ground with additional camera crews at key games thoughout Chicagoland...

I am with you LWFG and your remarks can be extended to a couple Friday night AM radio broadcasts, those from WJOL and WGN. Their "scoreboard" shows must end at 11 am and content before that time is dominated by commercials and blathering over-analysis about a small number of games and scores from the very top of their rankings. The serious HS football fan on Friday night would be better served by reducing the oversaturation of coverage of some teams and spreading information about others in a more balanced manner. So much is so overdone these days.

Great point mates1 re radio coverage. I've lived in Chicago/suburbs 25 years, but my perspective comes from having grown up in Indianapolis area. Sports crazed, but less focus on pro teams relative to Chicago, more bandwidth given to college and prep teams During HS football season the major networks chopper their camera crews to multiple games...a big deal for the kids. In addition, the top city and suburban schools (MIC conference) have their own TV deal with Comcast equivalent and broadcast a game of the week. My alma mater (Carmel HS) has 2-3 games each season on local TV, plus the Cube and other streaming options via web.

Few things... WJOL's coverage is awesome... A little Joliet Catholic heavy (even compared to West and Central) but thats to be expected. They have a specific coverage area and dare I say all of the many schools get coverage. If Im not listening to Pac or Lupe before and after the games its definitely WJOL. Sometimes theyll even talk outside of the coverage area.

CSN covers what they can. The crew hit up several games in a night. The sheer # of games makes it impossible to get everywhere. It makes sense that they would focus on mainly ranked teams. The added special segments are a nice touch as is Drive. I certainly prefer Drive over a couple more highlights. If anything i would ask for more Drive. Maybe edgy can pull some strings annd get us an hour.

While Im at it the Daily Herald also does a great job in their coverage area.
