Notice Madden now has a mustache.

Good sign for Cub fans. All other Chicago sports teams won their titles while the Head Coach had a mustache.

Wassup
George Halas didn't have a mustache, Rudy Pilous, (Blackhawks head coach of the Stanley Cup champ 1961 team) didn't have a mustache, neither did Bill Stewart from 1938, and neither did Tommy Gorman of the 1933-34 Hawks that won.

Frank Chance didn't have a mustache when he led the Cubs to the 1907 and '08 championships.

Fielder Jones didn't have a mustache when he led the White Sox to the 1906 championship. And Pants Rowland didn't have a mustache either when he led the Sox to the 1917 championship.

Just saying.

I assume you and SIU were responding to my pre-series questioning of using Schwarber.

Here are my answers:

Corey - Maddon may look like a genius but you don't. As a Cubs fan you may want to be able to spell the names of the players and coaches you are rooting for (Kyle Schawrber and Joe Madden). Must have been using Voodoo's phone, right?:p

As for SIU - SO far you were right and I was wrong

So your wrong and you have to act like a moron. I expect it from Dr. Everyone already knows he is a jack#%@

Maddon is definitely manager of the year. You must get some kind of credit for having players on the bench at the end of the game.

  1. Jason Kipnis was raised on Chicago's North Side, and like so many other kids, he grew up idolizing Ryne Sandberg, watching Sammy Sosa smash home runs and listening to Harry Caray.
  2. He bled Cubs blue.
  3. ...
  4. And he never once blamed Steve Bartman -- they went to the same high school, by the way.
  5. "We have a joke," the Indians second baseman said, referring to the infamous fan vilified in Chicago for a failed attempt to catch a postseason foul ball. "The only thing I'm mad at Bartman for is missing an easy flyball."
  6. Kipnis wishes those Chicago fans who haven't been able to let go would finally forgive Bartman and turn an ugly moment into something special.
  7. "I would love to see him throw out a first pitch," he said. "Everyone would go nuts."

  1. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...ve-see-steve-bartman-throw-world-series-pitch
What are they supposed to do? Kidnap the guy and force him to throw the pitch? How many times does it need to be said that he has no interest in doing this?

Joe Maddon last night: "we need to get a lead late in the game".
Absolutely.

Like, have a lead after three outs in the 9th. I think they need a pajama party...and mimes...and hippies.

You're probably just trolling here. But, if not, you are proving to be a profoundly stupid person.

I don't read here very often and I rarely say anything but I feel like I must chime in. I happen to know the kid (late 20s) who got the Bryant HR ball out of the basket last night. I coached him when he played HS baseball. I have known his dad and uncles for over 50 years and went to grade school with them. This is a great kid who comes from an outstanding family.

They go to a lot of Cubs games and went to games 3, 4 and 5 of the WS. Talk about a lifetime memory.

I know theirs a bunch of Soxs fans here including Edgy. I remember in 2005 the posts were going wild. I also know we have some Cub fans here! Let's here it for the Cubs! They have at least gotten in so let's make Chicago proud win the darn thing. Go Cubs go!!

I am a sox fan. however, I have rooted for the cubs when doing well.
while marine corps, in 80's I had a friend from back home send me 2cases of old style to san diego. as we watched the games, they won the games I had the old style as soon as they ran out, cubs lost remainder of the series against padres. oh well!.
I am a guy the roots like this.
family, school(conference), city(conference), state, country.
so I will root for the cubs to do well.
but, I will tell you this. I am deeply ashamed of everybody involved.
to let the ticket prices/bar owners gouge your fan base like that is repulsive.
you have a fan base that has not seen a world series, and to allow them to gouge people like that incredible. $1200 to get in a bar. sickening. I was truly hoping they would lose so the average joe could get a discounted ticket price in Cleveland and enjoy $650 seat.
not $3000-$7200. so the best thing for cubs fans honestly was for them to lose 3games.
ticket prices were cut in half for game 5. the gougers could not prey on the very very needy.
hey and if it does not happen this year it is not a disaster. you will have at least 3more years of deep post season play and a couple ws wins in the future.

It's crazy but that's the free market at work...It also wasn't just a pure cover charge. I know for the most part there was drinks/food included and the ones with the 1200 was for a table of 4/6 ect. So it wasn't 1200 to just get into the door. Again it's crazy but there was some misinformation being thrown around on social media. A cubs blogger put together a spreadsheet that outlined what each bar was doing and what the costs included.

yeah, I get it. just thought you have not had anything remotely this serious in 108yrs, let those fans enjoy the experience without being raped. hey one of my kids is siu/cub now. he grew into being a cub fan because for 4yrs could not watch anything else. and he went down there for the experience, one of his friends from siu(ato) lives downtown. anyway, just thought it odd.
I was at game 2 of the sox ws, 2rows up from where scotty pods hit the game winning homer.
there is nothing like the atmosphere of being there. but sheesh, I am not willing to give my left nut for it.
dean- I might be sitting next to you. hahaha.
I am a cheap baastard. but at least I can admit it.

20 bucks open bar at McNally's. No cover either.
You are exactly right. My son told me he was going to a place in the city with some friends that had an open bar from 7:00 till 10:00 for $20.00. I couldn't believe it because that is such a good deal at any time. I guess that was the place.

I think this series is going seven games. It has to because you have two teams with a combined 176 years of waiting for a championship. I mean, what difference does another day make...right?

As far as the pricing of tickets, bars etc. I am in agreement with Siu. If that is what people are going to pay then it is what will be charged. I read yesterday in the Trib that the Cubs local TV rights deal will end at the end of the 2019 season. At this point they are thinking of the potential of forming their own network, maybe with a TV partner. I guess L.A. did this a couple of years ago in a 25 year deal with Time Warner Cable that may bring them 8.35 billion.

How this will work, I don't know but it most certainly will raise cable rates or maybe you will have to buy a separate piece of a cable package to see games. The Ricketts' are not stupid people. They are making sure that everything that moves with that team will put money in their pockets. They bought the team in 2009 for $845 million and today it's estimated value is $2.2 billion and will most certainly go up after the World Series regardless of the outcome.

You want to watch the Cubs in the future, you are going to pay one way or another.

Cubs won't make the mistake the Dodgers did and leave fans in local market out of luck. A lot will change in regards to cable/streaming the next few years, we will see what happens.

Yeah I understand that. But what I am saying is that paying to see the Cubs may end up being a thing on its own. Now, they are in a package with other teams, sports, etc.
Maybe, maybe not...the landscape will be different in 2-3 years. How so? I wish I knew!
Add in that the MLB package at some point is going to change and not protect the regional sports networks as much. The Cubs have been looking at this for years now. It is extremely important, I'd love to know what their options are as of right now and not what they have mentioned publically but the real options they are looking at.

Well, it's 8:16 PM and game 6 is in the books. And remember, the team that forces a game 7 wins the series 71% of the time.

Corey: I used to hate bandwagon fans when I was younger but now I just deal with them. They aren't going away. We sure saw a huge rise in Blackhawks bandwagon fans when the team became a powerhouse again.

Most of them couldn't name more than three players on the team and only a few throughout the league. I shared two season tickets with a few others for a lot of years and some of those were real lean years.

People are drawn to success in different ways I guess. Then you have bandwagon fans who aren't necessarily cheering FOR a team but AGAINST the other. Seems like there were a ton of people cheering against Lebron and the Cavs last year. Yes?

It is what it is and I don't let it bother me, after all it's entertainment.

I will say it has been a real cool experience seeing my 5 and 3 year old daughters get into the Cubs when they really didn't care 6 weeks ago. Asking me first thing in the morning if the Cubs won, wanting to wear their cubs shirts to school, watching the first few innings with me, ect. Getting hooked on a ride like this , win or lose, is how you become a fan IMO.

I was in Cols at OSU in '95 when both teams were in their respective LCS, back then it was 90/10 Indians.
