We probably just hired the best assistant coach in the nation to head up our softball program.

Here's the highlights if you don't follow women's sports:

Alabama is a SEC and national power.
Stuedeman has been their pitching coach for 11 years. They have had 6 straight years of having at least one (sometimes two) All-American pitchers.
Team ERA last year was 1.69, Alabama was 53-10 and ended up third at the World Series.
Native of Birmingham - sister is the head coach at Alabama-Huntsville, who just won the Division II national championship.
Those in the softball world will be the first to tell you that Alabama's recent success is all Stuedeman.

So why was she fired at Alabama?
Alabama's coach took the head job at LSU. Stuedeman was not announced to go with him because she was probably going to take over at Alabama. She is well liked by players, and as mentioned, she has been key to the success.
Three days after Murphy took the LSU job, he decided he wanted to stay at Alabama, who gave him his job back, essentially screwing Stuedeman. She had a verbal altercation with the head coach, and was dismissed.
She ends up the head coach at an SEC rival within a couple weeks.

What you need to know is that our AD is serious about winning. This may have been the best hire we could have made in this position.

It's still hard for me to believe that our athletic dept is making progressive decisions. I'm socallusedto the LT days.<div>
</div><div>Every timeI hear good news surrounding our athletics I think to myself "Wow, that's a bold and ballsy call by the AD." Then I realize its probably just a normal decision any decent AD would make. </div><div>
</div><div>Thanks LT.</div>

...the first thing that came to my mind when I heard this was if the Alabamaification of Mississippi State athletics was continuing. Not that I'm against Alabamaifcation, just that it had better be done intelligently as well.

is that we just hired a coach that was about to be named head coach of arguably one of the best five jobs in her sport. Home run.

MSU. The progress continues on all fronts. I am down here on the beach this week and was served yesterday by a former MSU baseball player from Jacksonville named Trigillia or something like that. Nice guy and he was very excited about the future of MSU, nice to see that as well from the younger alumni. He said he had really been a Polk fan as he played for him and had hoped Raffo would get the job but is now pleased that Cohen is working out, his comment on Cohen was"extreme hardass"!

I remember rumors that there was a similar situation between Stans, Clemson, Kirby, and Georgetown. Some told me it was the gospel truth, other said it was far fetched. Still don't know if it had legs or not.<div>
</div><div>But back on topic, seems like a very good hire.
