As much as I bad mouth GolfCart, at least he tried to recruit (save QB, P, & K) and bring the talent level up, Ron Polk what DID you do w/your recruiting budget?

I'm with you. Croom was dealt a bad hand from the start because I'm sure us being on probation prohibited at least a few good recruits from coming to us... I'd also add WR to your list there.

However, Polk has everything he needed... Great baseball atmostphere, Great fanbase, Highly Successful program, oh and we'd been to the CWS in recent memory... But he still sucked

And I think subconsiously, he did try to 17 it up. Because if he recruited well, he'd have to admit that the NCAA rules were possible to live with after all.

I'm talking w/more and more MSU fans who are sayin' the same thing.

Polk-Sherrill say the handwriting on the wall and 17'd recruiting. Don't know, but I do know the talent level is barely CUSA in pitching, esp bullpen

While our baseball talent is not ever going to be confused for Thunder and Lightning, Polk at least recruited some players that will try hard and are coachable. I think that is just now starting to pay dividends as far as our offense, defense, and baserunning. At least they are trying to do what Cohen wants to do, and many of them are succeeding. Polk didn't leave the cupboard full, but I don't think he left it bare either. More like a few cans and a bag of rice.

It sounds like a broken record, but we get 1-2 more pitchers, and we will be fine. That's hardly what I would consider the cupboard bare. The problem is, our bullpen is just THAT bad.

Croom left us in worse shape. We have a walk-on QB starting, no WR's physically- as in literally no one there, a questionable o-line, and a decent defense. In football, we are going to basically have to retool the entire offense. That's about half of the team.

...The baseball team will be improved (possibly vastly improved) next year. The baseball team would already be a middle-tier SEC squad, except it's short about 3 servicable middle relief pitchers.

On the other hand, the football squad is a mess. It's going to take 2 more recruiting classes like the one just signed to pull the football program out of the gutter.

Both Cohen & Mullen will be better recruiters than the guys they replaced. It's just that Mullen has a much steeper uphill climb.

Polk was a great coach that became crazy in his last days and Croops is a never was.

This being said, if Polk had kept one his many great assistants and not ultimately relied on Raffo to develop hitters, he could have been successful like Paterno with the Spread HD guys or Bowden with Fisher.
