Kevin Young is Mormon —- he will do fine at BYU. Danny Ainge is Mormon, one of the greatest front office members in recent NBA history. As for the demeanor, I think it silly as well. Different coaches have different ways and that’s fine. Plus I don’t buy that Pope is Mr. Rogers. It just kind of comes off as antagonizing the man for his faith. I do not support Mormonism and I’ve been clear about that, but I also don’t support Catholicism either. Neither one is any of my business what the coach believes. Sure, I’d like my coaches to have a more reformed view of soteriology and a reformed view of Scripture but none of it matters as a fan. You’re taking leaps on that stuff, bro.

I couldn’t give two effing craps what religion he is. I’m as agnostic as a guy can be. I think the entire lot of religions is just plain goofy. That said, Kevin Young has a helluva lot more presence and cool factor than Pope will ever dream of. It’s not something that can be manufactured. Just like Swaggy Cal (not to be confused with old wrinkled Cal). And you can choose not to buy the Mr Rogers thing all you want, but it’s certainly very much the perception. Just like that video. His first year he cobbled together a group of misfit toys to have a decent season. When it came time to get serious he got punked on the recruiting trail. We didn’t have to last year. Early wins over Duke, zags, and Louisville. You’re overthinking it. It’s not the schedule. Our players just don’t seem to be as good. Gonna let it play out of course but at this juncture it looks like recruiting misses have put us behind the 8 ball.
I can definitely understand that there’s a large segment of fans who didn’t want this hire. I don’t blame anyone for being frustrated by it. As for the 5+ years, I don’t see it. I think this year and next year will tell the story. As for me, Pope wasn’t my first pick, but Pope was an easy sell to me. I still believe in his core philosophy. I had asked for that core philosophy for years about roster building. I didn’t have stats. I didn’t have metrics but I’m a huge CBB fan and I saw who was winning and what wasn’t. I really wanted:

I agree. I trust in Pope’s intelligence and humility to figure out what isn’t working and fix it. That’s why I’m annoyingly pro-Pope.
Yes I think 3 years is fair to give him and see where the program's at then. He's is a tough spot with the start of this season, but don't think he's one who will wilt under the challenge.
If those changes don’t include reworking the staff, including a new Strength and Conditioning coach along with better recruiters and someone to help with defense, then I don’t believe he is as willing to change as much as any of you claim he is. He seems as stubborn about loyalty as any other coach who has ended up fired because of refusal to change staff or certain players.
Too early to know. We are five games into year two. I’ll not be victim of the moment and jump the gun on that. Let’s see how the season plays out. It’d be like saying Cutter Boley is trash after his first couple performances. Now, he looks like a promising QB our football team can build around. This needs to play out a little more before we know.

It’s not too early in recruiting to know his current staff isn’t working too well on that front. He’s gotta make changes to his recruiting philosophy if he’s serious about making it work here.
Agree on three years. That’s enough time to have developed enough continuity to run out of excuses imo. With Kentucky resources, you should know if you have the right guy after three years. Only abysmal failure situations like Gillispie should be cut sooner.

I think I’m the wrong guy for that topic. I don’t have the same view that is widely held on recruiting. I definitely want to see major improvements tactically throughout the season.

It’s an ad hominem attack, which is something that directly attacks the person rather than the argument. If someone does that, especially early before i begin to debate them, it’s best to avoid. People usually do that when they are too emotionally wired, and if you start to argue it only will get really nasty and personal. Think of it this way: If you’re preparing to debate someone and they give you ad homs before you even get to the debate phase, you already know you’re dealing with someone who might start getting nasty when you debate. It’s more me stopping it before it gets ugly. I can debate for days on end if my interlocutor can stay on-point. I don’t like if people stray off the debate point, you never learn anything. Also, I’ll add —- this person has multiple times replied to me unprovoked telling me that no matter what I say they won’t be convinced otherwise. The way I see that is there’s really no point in debating. Really, at that point you’re just fighting one another. It’s not enjoyable at all. When I’m debating, I’m always 100% prepared to change my mind about my premise. If I’m shown something that I believe dismantles my argument, I’m now free to look at another point instead. I’d never debate someone about something I don’t want to be challenged for — that to me is unfruitful.
I’m going to wait until North Carolina and see what adjustments we have made. It’s still absolutely within the realm of possibility that we royally stink all year. I don’t expect that.
