This is a pretty similar procedure. Its called an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. Peyton actually had just a fusion, based on what I've read. </span>

It would be very uncommon to do a fusion without the ACD (anterior cervical decompression). If he had an anterior procedure (my preference for degenerative) then he had the whole thing, decompression (disc removal) and fusion (probably iliac crest bone graft from his hip which is the gold standard) or possibly an off the shelf cadaver graft plus a plate and screws. You can do non-instrumented fusions (i.e. no plates, screws, wires) in the lumbar spine, but I don't know anyone who would routinely do it in the cervical spine.

I am persuaded that my weird dreams result from the donor cadaver bone employed in my C3/4/5 fusion.

Probably harvested from some Indian Burial Mound.

Curiously, the metallic device reinforcing the fusion hasn't triggered any beeps from security gates employing Gaussian technology, or whatever they use to detect possible terrorists. Then again, I'm a business major, so what do I know.
