I was one who felt like we should see what Lebby could do in year 3. We’ve now seen and it’s not much better than year 2, so I’m all for moving on.

I left Starkville yesterday feeling the problem is bigger than Lebby though. When we got to Starkville and came through the Cotton District, it did not feel like there was a game today. I’ve been to games against D2 schools that felt more like game day. Inside the stadium, it was a beautiful day for football and the few fans that were there looked like they wanted to get away.

Lebby has done nothing to build fan support. No road dawg tours, no appeal to the Bulldog family, nothing. That can work if you are winning, and did for a few weeks the last two years, but not when you hit adversity.

This is where I want answers from Selmon. He is Lebby’s boss. He should be pushing him to do the things the program needs. He should be seeing the lack of inspiration on this team before we do and he should be evaluating if he is making the right personnel moves. If he is not seeing these things he has to take action.

I’ll end the rant with; what sucks the most for me is watching my children go through their school years and rarely having a competitive team to pull for. My kids are in high school and are were too young to remember the Mullen years. They have seen one decent year with Leech. That is bigger than Jeff Lebby.

State football is teetering on a USM football type collapse.

Fans have been beat down with loses, coaching turnover and the expense of attending. NIL etc. has some to do with it. State needs a successful charismatic HC asap.

With that said, I don't know if hiring someone like that is possible and paying the necessary player talent.

Other schools have taken on debt in the investment for the future. I guess we can be fiscally responsible now and continue not winning, support waning, and less future revenue, or we could take on some debt with the expectation of future returns. I honestly don’t know which is right.

Everything was fine when we were winning, earlier in the season.

People are tired of losing, bottom line.

Outside of a year here and there, we've been wondering through the desert since Mullen left. That was nearly a decade ago.

We got a little hope early this season with a generational QB, but he's now (most likely) done for the year and we're staring at a 4-8 or 5-7 season.

Lebby is 3-17 in the SEC over 3 seasons. That is piss-poor.

I saw a graphic on twitter the other day that said (since 2024) we were at the bottom in the league in total wins...below AR.

Think about that...below ARKANSAS.

AR fans think their program is dead.

To create the excitement and atmosphere you’re talking about requires a consistent winning football team.

Did you come to town for the Mizzou game? Because if you didn’t you missed the packed Starkville, Junction, and stadium you’re craving. The team was winning and there was electricity.

That’s where the consistency comes in. We don’t see it and so does everyone else and that’s what you end up with Saturday

There are a lot of ancillary things that can be done to create a winning culture. Just sitting around hoping to get lucky by 'winning' is a recipe to do what we've always done. You are one of the champions of this 'what do you expect' mentality on this board.

“Winning culture”

Winning culture requires winning over a longer period of time than one month.

But please do share what else it requires.

Fans: Buy tickets and show up. There's only 7 of these per year. Even in the bad times.

Administration: Been over this 100 times but that's outside of this discussion. But either way, provide a clear blueprint to what they want the program to be, and why we hire the coaches we do.

Coaches: Apply the adminstration's vision, and appeal to the fans as per the OP.

Acting like this doesn't matter is incredibly tunnel visioned. We literally do not have any of the 3 above. All we have is Kamario Taylor.

Your problem starts at the top. Kennum has run his course. Needs to head on back to DC. University Presidents get stagnant. He's been here 17 years. The OM folks on the college board are ecstatic with him being here, though
Keenum just got an extension

Our current situation is affecting our future also IMO . IF you're not going to emphasize athletics and have an excellent PR department then you better have very strong academic ratings to offset that . At this point we excel at neither . Younger folks (kids) of all ages are drifting away and turning their attention to other schools. We don't necessary have to always WIN but we can't stand much more always LOSING . The state of Mississippi needs a vibrant Mississippi State University and our current administration is just not delivering that .

I was at the Missouri game and the atmosphere was great. Saturday though, that might as well have been 5 years ago.

Selmon is the best AD in my lifetime in the toughest athletics environment ever. He just needs to get a real football coach and give them a real SEC staff like he did for baseball, it's football's turn now
In less than 6 months, we are going to be in a position in both football and men’s basketball where our coaching staffs fully deserve to be fired, and yet we can’t do so due to not being able to afford the buyouts.

This is administrative excellence to you?

Where did that come from?

There’s money there for the buyouts.

And you can't fire anybody until you see what happens this year. What if Swann comes on and we win three games? Hell, basketball hasn't even had a healthy Hub in the fall, or played a game yet, cross that bridge when you get there. We won't be out a huge buyout on Lebby, so money should be there for a coach.

Basketball is going to be atrocious. Like 13-14 wins bad.

If we can’t afford a backup QB, I refuse to believe that we’ve got $11M hiding in the couch cushions to pay coaches to leave.

Some of y’all keep talking year after year about all the money that we have, and yet our recruiting, our rosters, and our athletic performances continue to paint a very different picture

Consistency.........

That is the key.......as well as show improvement and show that the TEAM is engaged.

I feel like I keep seeing a un-engaged team, and whatever momentum we build with a win this season, we have pissed it away the past 2 weeks.

It’s not an affordability issue. Look to the man in charge for that decision.

Also paid last year for a backup to Shapen but everyone was shìtting a brick that we were paying that much money for a back up.

It would be insanely dumb to ever buy out a basketball coach

It is hard to fault people for not wanting to show up and watch us lose over and over again. Going to State games takes a lot of money out of the "fun" budget and it isn't any fun going through all of the trouble to get there and the game being over in the 1st quarter.

If Swann comes in & wins 3 games i would almost be more p*ssed about playing Puckett than I am now. Almost.

Swann would be dead in the first quarter. He’s a statue.
We about to find out next weekend but Lebby isn't going to survive because we aren't winning 7 and people are pissed about the recruiting/talent problem as much as losing after this BS with Puckett & Swann. Dude knew Swann had injuries when he took him, it was lazy!

So why did we recruit & sign him?
Unfortunately the last 3 years we have had to ask a lot of these kind of questions and they all have the same answer.

Why don't we have a decent backup QB? Our coach sucks

Why have did we give away 3 SEC games last season?
Our coach sucks

Why do we not have any depth anywhere except WR?
Our coach sucks

Why can't we improve on either line of scrimmage after 3 years? Why don't fans come to games? Why can't we sign many of the top players in our own state?

We were 4-2. It was 3-0 after the first quarter.
