Why did they ever get rid of Thomas Jones?

Seems like they were wanting to get worse after that.

Get rid of your best back and start the worst qb in the nfl.

Broncos get Kyle Orton and 2 first round picks. They called Cutler's bluff who is now recanting saying he never wanted to get traded, and that he didnt expect this to happen so fast. Cutler starting acting like a little kid, and now the Broncos threw him out. I like the move for them, because it shows they are headed in a direction that doesnt put up with whining and that kind of garbage. Go draft another QB and attempt another rebuild.

Are you kidding? I think the Broncos are at fault for this, more so than Cutler. The Bears just got a lot better and the Broncos just got a lot worse. I would say they are headed backwards.

You get paid millions of $$$'s and the second things don't go your way you act like a child. Trades and player movement are part of the NFL. There may be more stuff going on behind the scenes but it is only a matter of time before little Jay starts pouting again.

The Broncos may take a step back in the short-term, but they got the better end of the deal long term. Kyle Orton will be a decent place holder til they can draft and develop a real QB with one of the FOUR 1st round picks they have in the next two years. This also allows them to fill holes on the defensive side. They also got a third round pick. I'd guess of those 5 picks, one is a QB and the rest are defensive players, and that will go a long way in making them a better team. The Broncos got the better of this deal. The Bears aren't exactly overflowing with talent, especially young talent, so they probably would have been better off holding on to those picks.

Edited to add that I don't think it was a terrible trade for the Bears, just that the Broncos got the better of it.

I agree. They get 2 first rounders this year, and they will probably be in a decent position to take Mark Sanchez if they want to. I'm a little skeptical on USC quarterbacks after the past few seasons of how bad they have been in the NFL, so I may give Orton a chance to show something for a year before I draft a big name QB. If they do terrible, they get a favorable spot in next years draft to take the top QB, whoever that may be. Cutler seems to think he is bigger than he actually is, and that can be dangerous for a guy that young. He can take the Bears to the playoffs because of the crap conference he is in now, although the AFC West wasnt much better. I say good job Broncos. Cutler retracted his whole " I want to be traded" thing, so I applaud the Broncos for calling his bluff, which at this point is what it obviously was.

Cutler vs Orton? I'll take Cutler no matter the circumstances. It is a big step up from the spaghetti armed Orton or head case Grossman.

Being a life-long Bears fan though I know that it probably won't work because we haven't had a decent QB since Jim McMahon, and he wasn't that great a QB...just a winner.

First off, the new coach is a dickwad. I understand him wanting to make the team his in his own way, but you don't start off by spitting on the face of the franchise. This whole deal of trying to get Cassel and ship out Cutler is something I believe to be stupid on many levels. Cassel had a great season, but let's not forget that he also benefited from throwing to two of the best wideouts in the game, having one of the greatest qb's in the game as a mentor and one of the greatest coaches telling him what to do and putting him in a position to win. Put him on the Broncos, or the Chiefs as he is now and his performance will not be nearly as good as it was last year.

Does Cutler share some blame? Yeah, a little. He could've handled it a little better. He needs to better grasp that it's a business and handle it more professionally. However, I think Cutler's biggest mistake is taking bad advice from Bus Cook, a guy viewed by many to be a giant douchebag. Isn't this the same guy who helped Brett Favre destroy his legacy in Green Bay?

The Bears just upgraded their offense big time. If the defense and Matt Forte can stay healthy they have to be considered one of the top contenders for the NFC. They most certainly are a head above the rest of their division.

Meanwhile the Broncos took a big step back. I like Kyle Orton, I really do. I don't think he gets enough credit for the improvements he made as a qb last year. However, Jay Cutler is just much better. Even if I didn't personally find Josh McDaniels to be a sleazebag, I didn't have much hope for his tenure in Denver. I don't think any of Belichick's coordinators have done well since leaving New England. At least not Weis, Mangini or Crennel.

I think the Bears just took a huge step forward(they also obtained the services of Orlando Pace today), while Denver took a HUGE step backwards.

The Broncos and Cutler were done, regardless of what anybody else thought. They weren't going to fix that.

I think Denver came out ahead, but I'm biased. I don't know a lot about Orton, but I have to imagine he'll be serviceable in the right system. I'm thrilled with the picks we got. That not only gives us a great shot at making instant improvements to the defense, it also gives us some leverage should we find somebody we really want. We have the 12th pick and the 18th pick this year. That isn't too shabby. I wouldn't be shocked if we tried to move up in the round to draft a QB or sit on them and try that next year.

As I said above, it is what it is. I'm still a little shocked at how all of this has gone down. You can ride Denver about the chop blocks all day, you can say we haven't done **** since Elway, but there wasn't a single person, with at least half a brain, who would have described the Denver franchise is dysfuntional. And, the way all this went down just reminds me of something I'd make fun of the Raiders for!

I started out siding with Cutler during this whole ordeal. I think it was a slap in the face for a first time, child-like coach to come in and put him on the trading block. And that IS what happened. However, after a few days went by, Cutler somehow managed to look like a childish punk. In my eyes, Cutler was wrong ton continue to carry on about it. At some point, the man has to be man and get over his hurt feelings.

My fear is that my instinct about Cutler is correct. I really do think he'll go down as one of the greats. I think the comparisons to Favre are almost spot-on.

last week, but that came and went in spectacular fashion. I agree completely with your timeline-of-blame going from 100% newbie coach to pretty much all on the Vanderdouche. Who I'm sure will do just fine in Chicago. They've been a solid QB away from being a great team for a while now. Denver's receivers can not be happy about this. Sure, Neckbeard can hand off to a stable of nameless RB's, but hitting Brandon Marshall across the middle...we'll see. I hope Sanchez is still on the board during the draft.
p.s. None of this will matter if their defense still stinks out loud.

Chicago clearly got the better QB, but Denver got some damn good draft picks for a QB that everyone knew they had burned their bridges with.

JH had some decent games purely because of Neal Anderson super human efforts. Neal is the greatest back that will never make it to the Hall of Fame. The only decent QB that the Bears have had since McMahon was Eric Kramer, but he benefited from a year where the NFL made pass coverage impossible and every team had one or two 1,000 yard recievers.</p>

Neal was a great back for the Bears and yes, he did make JH look good.

When you look back at the Chicago Bears QBs for the last 30 years:

1979: Mike Phipps, Vince Evans, Bob Avellini
1980: Phipps, Evans
1981: Evans
1982: Bob Avellini, Jim McMahon
1983: McMahon, Evans
1984: McMahon, Avellini, Steve Fuller, Rusty Lisch, Greg Landry
1985: McMahon, Steve Fuller
1986: McMahon, Mike Tomczak, Steve Fuller, Doug Flutie
1987: McMahon, Tomczak
1988: McMahon, Tomczak, Jim Harbaugh
1989: Tomczak, Harbaugh
1990: Harbaugh, Tomczak
1991: Harbaugh
1992: Harbaugh, Peter Tom Willis, Will Furrer
1993: Harbaugh, Willis
1994: Erik Kramer, Steve Walsh
1995: Kramer 1996: Kramer, Dave Kreig
1997: Kramer, Rick Mirer
1998: Kramer, Steve Stenstrom, Moses Moreno
1999: Shane Matthews, Cade McNown, Jim Miller
2000: McNown, Matthews, Miller
2001: Miller, Matthews

Not suprising, neither he nor his agent were reachable yesterday. That seems to fit the story coming from the Broncos about the last few weeks.

That is the one thing the Bears have to be concerned with. If Cutler isn't 100% happy about this, the Bears will not be getting what they thought they were going to get.

I was hoping Cutler would make it back to Nashville where he would be a great upgrade and a franchise QB in a city that would love him more than any other QB in the NFL in their home city.

Unless peyton made it back to Nashville, of course, in which case the entire city would be covered in orange ****
