Glock sights are terrible. The only thing I did to my 19 was upgrade to trijicon sights. Makes a huge difference. I loathe when people try to trick out a glock and/or f*** with the internals. Why? It is ugly and it goes bang. End of f***ing story.
Anybody shot a Walther PPS M2 or Sig P365? I hate the Glock 43. I'd like something a smidge smaller than a Glock 19 but not much. And spare me any noise about the new models Glock just brought out. Those appear stupid.
I shot the PPS, the Springfield, the 43, and the Shield when looking for another concealed carry a yr or so ago.
-I have big hands and although the Walther has a nice contoured grip, it didn’t fit mine.....felt awkward. Of course smaller guns like this never feel very comfortable for me anyway. I’ve shot the full sized Walther and it’s one of most comfortable guns I’ve ever shot. Had the best trigger of them....nice and crisp. Had good night sights, so no change needed. The mag and slide release felt the best out of all of them, but I didn’t shoot as well as the others. So, I crossed that off my list.
-The Springfield felt familiar. One of my first polymer handguns was a Springfield XD full sized.....so this felt very familiar. Easily had the best texture on the grip. Almost dont need Talon Grips, but I’d get them anyway. Had great night sights and was the easiest to breakdown. Mag and slide release were middle of road. Even though it felt familiar, I shot it 3rd best. Off the list.
-The grip on the Shield was slippery....nothing that Talons wouldn’t fix. Mag and slide release were 2nd best. Had good night sights. The trigger on the Springfield and Shield are very, very similar. They have the 2 best triggers of the group. Breakdown was the worst of the 4 as you have to reach inside with a pen or something to hit a lever inside the well or from the top. I shot this 2nd best.
-Glock 43 easily had the worst ergonomics. Grip is smooth....void of texture.....and is like holding a 2x4 block. Mag release is worst of the 4. Slide release is small, sharp.....takes a lot of getting used to. 3rd worst to break down. Compared to the others, the sights stink....just dreadful. I do give it a bump up because the body and slide are smooth without pieces that could potentially get hung up with a concealed draw. I have a Glock 17 so I know how to change things that need to be changed.....and I’m used to things that annoy. Interestingly enough despite the poor grip and sights, I shot it the best. Also, on this day it was near $100 cheaper than the others because of a rebate I had.
In the end I went with the Glock 43 and it’s price given it’s drawbacks. I gave it Talon Grips, Ameriglo Spartan sights, and bumped up capacity on one of my mags.
Its worth noting that I shot well enough with all.....and all have reliability well enough....to trust each with my life.
