To refer to another teams' player as making a half assed effort. To ***** about the refs and but credit his opponent. To not own the cost of his technical.

I'm very happy he doesn't represent RU.

He should have been T’d up five minutes in when he lost it, but they let him off the hook and gave it to the bench instead.

I find it brutal to hear everyone tonight blasting the ref for T’ing him up. “You can’t call a T in a tie game with a minute left”. Bull crap. If a coach has so little control of him emotions that he’ll flail his body onto the court while arguing, he’s decided that he’s getting a T regardless of the score/time.

And the postgame comments were pathetic.

In his postgame, he was railing about an over-the-back call by the officials on a rebound. Calling it the worse call he's ever seen and saying it cost them the game.

I saw the play and I have no clue what he is talking about.

The Memphis player had position for rebound and a UConn player reached over his head (from behind) and made forceful contact with the back of the Memphis player. That's a foul every time.

As many times as it is has been warranted to criticize the officials, you would never see Pike or Schiano behave like that. They always take the high road and give credit to the opponent rather that blaming refs for the loss, even though they're probably tempted to do so. We may not win national championships but proud to have classy coaches.

The thing is yes he is a lunatic. But he is continually setting the groundwork to influence calls when it is a meaningful game and in the tourney. His dad this forever. His dad made it so difficult on refs that there were only 4 crews in the state that could and would regularly work his games.

I wish our coaches wold be more demonstrative. Refs have very little respect for Schiano and Pickiell. All one has to do is look back in this past weeks football game. How many pass interference calls were missed on our sideline? How many tick tack flags were thrown on our db's from the visitong sideline?

Look at calls and reviews that have not gone our way in the past. There is a chance to influence those calls. And it starts with letting the refs know that it will not be tolerated and putting them on blast from time to time.

Isn't there an unwritten rule that coaches shouldn't badmouth calls by the refs in a postgame interview? There have been multitudes of horrendous game ending calls where the coach on the losing end would at most say "no comment" so as not to bad mouth the refs. I know if it was a conference game, the Big East would be not be happy with Hurley's grousing over the Refs. It would serve him right if the Refs sent him a "message" about publically criticizing them.

Absolute lunatic. I was telling my son literally a minute before the over the back play that he needed to get T'd up but the refs give him way too much leeway because he has two natties.

And then he got T'd up, LOL.

But the offensive sets the guy runs are superb. Wish we could do the same....

You probably know that there is no "over the back" in the basketball rule book.
It's perfectly legal to make incidental contact going for a ball in an opponent's air space. I used to be pretty good at it and I used to explain this to refs a lot. I don't see this one as a foul. IMHO not enough contact that gave him an advantage, but it's close enough that I wouldn't go apoplectic over it.

Regardless of the rules that play would be called over the back way more often than it wouldn’t be.

If you listen to Hurley's comments - he is not arguing that it wasnt over the back.

THREE times he mentioned making that call "at that point in the game" (meaning tied game, less than a minute to go, in OT). he says it three times.

another time he questions why it was called "the way that game was going" which I take to mean either: again, when it happened in the game and/or based on how the rest of the game was called (I didnt watch but maybe the refs had let a lot of other calls go?)

but in the presser - he never once actually says it wasnt a foul.

to me, thats a no brainer OTB. he goes OTB - shoves the defender away from the ball - the act of fouling give him the positional advantage. its a foul.

but maybe Hurley has a point based on the reasons he stated (maybe refs should swallow the whistle considering the point in the game AND particularly if they had let similar physical play go through the course of the game). refs being inconsistent drives everyone nuts.

still, doesnt mean he isnt a horses ***.

Think you're wrong here. It depends onhow offensive he is. Some things take precedent over winning a ball game. What if he was cursing out players or worse-- there are hundreds of situations where a lunatic can go bad. We had one of those unfortunately .The university is an school of higher learning first and foremost.
