Good morning folks. Busy work day while hosting a friend of my wife's, visiting from Ireland. A somewhat distant relative actually, but someone who has been close to my wife since they were kids.

Crazy football results, or maybe a reflection that my halfhearted interest in the sport has me out of touch with new realities. I expected all four Elite Eight games to go the other way. I did read there is a common thread -- all four remaining head coaches learned under Nick Saban. That's wild.

I hope you are all gaining ground on the new year.

It's game day...

To be honest, I am not excited about it. Until we show some consistency, I will not be excited. Wife wants to go shopping this morning so, I will probably miss it and catch it on a replay site.

Good morning everyone.

I've been doing a lot of hiking trail work the last week and I'm SORE! I've been lifting and walking/hiking consistently the last several months, but actual hard physical labor is different. I guess I'll keep it up til I can't.

Excited, but nervous about today's game. I prefer to have hope for the rest of the season. It's hard to be consistent when most of your best players have been injured on/off all season. Now it's time to put up or shut up.....hence me being nervous to finally get our answers. It shouldn't take too many game to get the final verdict.

Early morning shopping is coming up....wife likes to avoid the crowds. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning folks.

Prayers for any American service personnel in harm's way in Venezuela. Getting rid of Maduro was justified, but honestly handling the aftermath of deposing dictators (take Saddam, for example, or the Taliban leadership) has not been a smooth process for America. At this point, hoping for the best is all I can think of to do.

Big test for the Cats today. I THINK this team is finally coming together, with the second half versus St. Johns and getting Quaintance in the mix.

But a road opener at Alabama may be too much too soon. I'll wait a couple weeks -- assuming Lowe and Quaintance stay healthy -- before deciding if this season has a chance to be a success, by Kentucky standards.

I hope it is a good day for all of you.

You had good reason not to be excited about that game yesterday. This team is going to be looking at an NIT bid if things don’t turn around soon.

Correct. Back in the day, "5 Pfenning coin" worth 2-3 cents US. Great keepsake.
I had a whole slew of German coins from the WWII era in my locker which was broken into before I left after my first tour ended in July of 1979. Pissed me off. They also took all of my crystal animals I had bought over the 3 years I was there. We were billeted in 8-10 men rooms back then so, everyone knew what I had but now knew who took it, of course.

Good morning folks.

I’m at Reagan Airport in DC, heading for Kansas City. My oldest daughter, 42, is having a radical mastectomy tomorrow, the pivotal moment following a cancer diagnosis this summer. My wife the RN is going to care for her in the early days after her surgery.

She’s handled this trauma with lots of courage and I’m sure she’ll handle the aftermath equally well. It’s hard on a father to watch a child hurting, but I can’t be weaker than she is, so I am just doing all I can for her.

Morning D-Leaguers!

41° this morning with a high in the low 70's expected for the day.

Game Day. Hump Day! Maybe it's a sign. :giggle:

Still looking for a new (to me) midsize truck. Looking at 2022 to now models. Even with the problems of moving old stock off of the lots, dealerships are still sticking with their high prices and high interest rates. Trying to wait it out. My hooptie has been acting up a little but so far is hanging in there. Still have my 2007 F150 in reserve in case the hooptie buys the farm.

Not much else going on so, you folks charge the hill and get over it. (Double meaning there, trying to be clever.)

Be safe out there and God Bless.

Have a friend out here who is a big OU fan and I told him earlier today that I did not think UK would make the NCAA tourney this year and he said "No, that won't happen" It's UK Mac." He admitted he had not watched them play this year, but I told him that we had no offense.
I am battling not to fall back into tubby smith attitude again.

Good morning everyone

I've been down to the lake with Dad. Although we did catch several bass we did not find/catch any stripers that we were after.

Well, I guess we have the answer to our questions now. Hmmm, what to do with the extra time I may have from now til early April?? No further comment.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Focus on NFL Playoffs, NCAA Football Playoffs and the Winter Olympics starting 6 Feb. March is dead unless you want to watch others in the NCAA tourney. If UK is not in it, I usually do not watch. I will watch the SEC tourney until UK is ousted.

The reason I ask, my cousin that lives in Elgin, he works on the Army base close to Elgin, stopped by for a visit today, was telling me that his brother works there at MM site, he is on the fire department part. He was telling that the old plant was in a multi-year cleanup, but now they have changed directions and something going to be built there if I understood him correctly.
I read a company called General Matter will be opening a new uranium enrichment plant at or near the old site. I think it is going to be a big deal. General Matter is involved in generating nuclear power anD I think Trump and the DOE are pushing it. Even though it is remote (in the middle of a game reserve), several years ago they built a 4 lane highway to make it safer to transport goods.

Something else about the plant. Besides enriching uranium, we had a smelter where we recovered gold. Much of the wiring in missiles, etc were lined with gold. At times in my job, I had to do walk throughs in buildings making sure there were no water or steam leaks. There were 4 or 5 buildings about the length of a football field and maybe 30 feet wide and 20 feet tall. Except for a small walkway, these buildings were filled to the ceiling with parts waiting to have the gold recovered. It was melted down to almost pure gold. At one point an employee, stole a good amount of basically pure gold and sold it to a local jeweler. They caught the guy, but the jeweler got off. He told them he didn't know it was stolen and had taken it to New York and sold it. They never recovered the gold.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 47°F and cloudy. Cold front blew in. Warming later to mid-50s.

Hoosiers flat-out destroyed Ducks last night. Hurricanes vs IU Jan 19. Game to be played in Miami. Blast from the past ala 1984 Orange Bowl. I'll probably watch game at a cousin's place in Sanford, FL. Go Canes!

Bulldogs come into Rupp tonight. Game at 7:30 pm. Really need the W. Go Cats!

Headed out later for a walk. Y'all take care.

Good morning everyone.

We've had our great, great niece again here the last couple of days. That part is great....bad part is her mother stayed most of 2 days here too. She's quit her job to become full time stay at home mom, moved out in the country and now is bored silly. Goodness, I'm not sure I can handle it.

JQ is out of for the game tonight. He sure hasn't lived up to his hype the last 2 games. Hope he gets to return. I guess I'll watch...just can't stay away.

I hope everyone has a great day and a better evening between 8:30 & 10:30.

Good morning folks.

Still in Kansas City. The news is good following my daughter's double mastectomy. The cancer had not spread to her lymph nodes and it APPEARS it was totally removed. Obviously, nothing is certain at this point. She had reconstructive surgery at the same time. My wife, the RN, has been doing the post-surgical care, and she tells me that the overall result has been a remarkable success.

My daughter is recovering fast enough that we'll probably head back to Washington DC tomorrow.

Thanks for all the well-wishes when I posted here that the surgery was happening.
