I’m stuck in the auto shop this morning getting a tire repaired and the number of lawyers advertising on the TV blows me alway. First, has it gotten worse over the last few years, or has it always been this bad. Second, how is no one competing with Mama Justice by advertising as Daddy Justice? I’m going to Oxford to sell my big idea. You could have Baby Justice, Grandpa Justice, and even StepMama Justice!!!

I wonder if we could hire her for a class action lawsuit against MSU Athletics for mental anguish and torture and kidnapping or something. Wouldn’t you love to read Drebins court reporting?

MSU's attorney would just bring up contributory negligence:

"Hey, we didn't force you to be an MSU fan. You chose it yourself."

Someone who is a lawyer can correct me if I'm wrong (and then said lawyer can go straight to hell), but they're all essentially latching on to what folks would get anyhow from car wreck insurance, worker's comp, etc. In other words, somebody signs up with them & gives the lawyer 40% after the attorney "fights" to get you a $10,000 settlement. Except, it's the same $10k settlement you would've got anyways, as these settlemnts are all highly regulated these days.

You’re dead wrong if you think the settlement offer you’ll get as an unrepresented person is the same offer you’d get if you were represented by an attorney. I feel like a claims adjuster told you this one time and you never forgot it.

I've absolutely seen it first hand in worker's comp. The Richard Schwartz of the world aren't adding value for their clients. Of course, there are instances where people absolutely need to lawyer up in insurance/comp cases.

As much as I despise this ambulance chasing lawyer crap, I admit insurance companies would be even worse than they are without them.

I've convinced myself that I suffer from Stockholm Syndrome being a graduate and lifelong MSU fan. There is no other explanation as to why I stick with them when they torture me so very often. On top of that I continue to give my money to Bulldog Club, Bulldog Initiative, etc because I am convinced deep down they don't really want to hurt me (cue Culture Club song).

It all depends on the case. 90% of the time, yeah, the lawyer's not going to be able to get you any more than you could get yourself because, contrary to popular opinion, most claims are settled fairly. But there absolutely are cases when a lawyer can more than pay for himself.

To me, it's worth it to pay an attorney just to not have to 17 w all the BS.

I've often wondered how many people lose money after going through this. The lawyer can make anywhere from 25% to 40% plus fees which are paid from the settlement. So, when they advertise, "So & So got me $100K for my car accident." The person only gets around $60K. The insurance company may have offered $60K without the lawyer.

As I understand it. It is worse than that. Lets say you get 100k. The lawyer only gets his 40k after the IRS taxes the entire 100k.

We need Tort Reform. Lawyers are a drain on our economy as we all pay extra for Jackpot Justice.

You're not wrong, the USA has far more lawyers per capita that other industrialized countries. BUT those countries generally have far more governmental oversight. https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/lawyers-per-capita-by-country

I've been to Peru twice and they don't allow attorney ads like the ones we have. They also don't allow government employees to unionize. I realize we're bettern Peru on multiple fronts but I like those 2 laws they have.

It's a damn shame that doctors were effective in clamping down on the new supply of doctors but lawyers in comparison practically didn't even try to limit the number of lawyers. Lawyers unfortunately can more or less create work for themselves whether there's a need for them or not.

Or less. China protection for workers is like the US in the 20s....they simply don't care. Not a lot of jackpot justice when people fall off bamboo scaffolding over there but manufacturing is cheap....or it used to be.

Less lawyer commercials and less drug commercials. I don’t need a fake TV Dr to know Viagra is right for me.

In my experience, unfortunately on multiple legal fronts of late, lawyers want cases that are point and click. They have all the paperwork already written, they just fill in the blanks with the names etc. They absolutely abhore any case that requires them to write any kind of motion or filing that they will have to actually research and write new. So if your case matches thousands of others, there's hundreds of lawyers out there itching to do a couple hours "work" and charge you thousands. If your case involves more work than that, piss off.

After you leave the auto shop take a look at the highway billboards, they are 90% attorneys. Either UM produces too many lawyers an/or Mississippi is a litigious state preying on the "little guy".

How is it praying on the little guy?

Most “little” people don’t get sued. Nothing to gain.
And, if they are suing someone and getting hosed by attorneys, they could have picked a better attorney or not sued at all.

Highly disappointed.
