Stride can be for either timing or power...check Todd Frazier, he strides for power...check Albert Pujols, he lifts it up and sets it down (more timing).

Squash the bug is probably good for young guys - but as they get older, that back foot should really power up and through the pitcher...power should move straight to where the ball came from, squash the bug is more rotational (going away from where the power needs to go)...but squash the bug can help be a teaching point of throwing open the hips...another thing you can say is just to get that belly button to the pitcher.

Great educational baseball post all around, catsfan. Take notice, Robvio. That advice will certainly help if practiced.

I was a good fielder when I played, but got worse as a hitter the older I got. I've really practiced a lot with my kids on fielding fundamentals...... But have relied HEAVILY on their coaches and other family members with hitting fundamentals.

If they have problems with opening up that swing and finishing, you all can help...

Did a drill when I played and when I coached HS - soft toss, but soft toss from directly in front of them - toss the ball at (in front of) their front hip....they should pull the ball, but it will really get them finishing...the drill exaggerates the process, but its very helpful.

Just teach them the purest swing in the history of baseball.

(Just kidding ... mostly)

Nah, just showing the back leg. I don't even like lefties and their "pretty" swings.

All kinds of ways to hit - just know that there are a few keys that come with all the great swings/hitters.

Shouldve picked this one - still a superstar, but you can really see the back leg/toe movement here

To get back to Dadyero though - my almost 9 month old can hit himself in the head with a mini-Louisville slugger bat...but we are getting there! :sunglasses:

All good points..... But I think most of the kids in dadyero may still be a bit young to be teaching them MLB power swings.

I'll be 53 when George graduates. In comparison, my mom was 38 when I graduated. Eek. I'm the old mom.

We had our 3rd child Saturday Night. He was early at 35-1/2 weeks but still 7 lbs 11 oz and seemingly fine.

Then Sunday night came and his oxygen level dropped 3 times and he is now in the nic-u. My wife has since swollen out of control after delivery, which is common but to this extent is just unreal at this point.

My first two kids were easy. In Friday and out Sunday and for a c-section that is all one can ask. She has wanted 4 kids from day one and with this being a 3rd boy I have been hinting at stopping, and now she is starting to my side of things.

We get out of here in good shape and things go good from here and it could be time to count our blessings and be thankful.

I'll be 46 when the oldest graduates and 53 when the youngest does. I'm usually among the oldest if not the oldest parent at all of my youngest kid's sporting events.

So...this baseball all-star (7U) stuff is pretty serious. Tonight is the first practice with practices also on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday is practice at home with 100 hits, 100 pop-ups and 100 grounders. Not sure if we get to rest on Sunday or not.

Ummm...my kid played on the worst team in the league that practiced once or maybe twice a week at the most. I'm not sure we know what we signed up for here.

Hang in there Krazy, you guys will be ok but I can understand your concern.

48/50/52.....never considered that particularly old for our gen but looking back may have done it a year or two earlier. Not BRax "have kids at 17" level, just earlier.

Kinda wanted a 4th (and may still adopt) but as my 2yo is starting to get it, I just can't go back to baby stuff. Just can't do it at this age/workload etc..

Just catching up on the last couple pages of this thread. I'm honestly hoping that my kid(s) don't even like sports. The thought of spending every second of my free time at a baseball field already depresses me.

Been home a few days now and everyone is good!

We are almost past the requests to stop by and visit which will be nice to get back to normal.

I really kind of forgot about all the things necessary for newborns and how much they actually sleep.

Wife and kids flew back from Disney/Orlando last night. I fell asleep with the TV on the night of the attack. Woke up around 4am to the news talking about a mass shooting in Orlando. Those few seconds before I realized what was up were terrifying.

Then as I am grabbing their luggage off the carousel I see a kid has been nabbed by an alligator. Can't even fathom what that Dad is going through watching a gator take away his son.

Just glad to have them home safe. Stay safe Dadyero

I always wonder why 10 hour versions are a thing. This song will never leave your head and my kids watched it years ago.

I may or may not have a remix on my iTunes.... :flushed:

Football in less than 2 months. Say what you will, but I love some youth football. Yeah, its a bit of a jumbled game at a young age, but its still a ton of fun to watch! (especially when the kids get out of pewee age)

New rollerblading episode of Teen Titans Go.....just fantastic.

I just want to shred, is that too much to ask?

Teen Titans is the best cartoon kids show on TV. Because…waffles. Tons of references that only parents get. The episode where the Titans are on trial for tearing ish up while trying to do good stuff was great. References to Seinfeld, A Few Good Men and My Cousin Vinny among others…all were hilarious. And the "Waffles" episode was annoyingly funny as well. Funny…because it was so annoying.

If you are stuck having to watch new age kid cartoon stuff on TV and your kids are past the Dora/Pound Puppies stage then I highly recommend this show. And one more thing...

Yes, but not getting them a new one. The way I figure is that they will make some mistakes and beat the crap out of it. Got them an older one that we are in the process of getting to run.

Truer words have not been typed on this internet forum. The Pyramid Scheme episode is top ten episodes, or any kind kid or adult, all time for me. It should be played for every Hen on Facebook to prevent the spread of multi level marketing. Cyborg, Robin, and Birdarang (who doesn't get near the clock he should) are just priceless imo.

That said, I had to have a serious talk with my sons after the Waffles episode......that escalated quickly in our home.

[laughing]

I have two girls but the "waffles" deal ran rampant in my house as well. It was funny at 1st…but well you know. And no doubt Birdarang needs more air time. I argue with my daughters all the time about which character is the MVP of that show. They both think it is Raven…who definitely has her moments. But there is no question that Robin is the MVP.

I also concur on the pyramid scheme episode. Hilarious. I spent valuable quality time explaining the the nature of pyramid schemes to both of my daughters after that episode. They were both saying, "You mean that's a real thing…like in real life?"

So there's at least two future hens who shall avoid being involved in pyramid scheme shenanigans…all thanks to this fantastic kids show. So in addition to being great fun for the whole family...it's also educational and stuff.

Titans, Go!

I enjoy TTG so I assume it's inappropriate and I shouldn't let my kids watch it but it's not. It's just funny to both kids and adults. The perfect kids show, imo. Peppa pig is also a good show for the under 5 crowd. Worship Mrs. Rabbit.

One show that IS inappropriate for kids is Game of Thrones because of the nudity and violence and language and tone but I am super excited for the day when me and my boys can go back and watch that series together. Thinking when they're like 17 and 15 or something.

Anyone have any big plans for Father's Day? I didn't get my wife a thing for Mother's Day so I'm hoping she gets me the same. Probably going to be at the ballpark a majority of the day and then go to dinner with her family. Then come home and enjoy what might be the best television night of the year with game 7 and the bastard bowl. Sheweee

DADYERO Tip #217

If the wife has the audacity to ask you to pick up a birthday present on your way home from work for some party that your older kid is going to be attending then don't waste useless time complaining or arguing (pick your battles, son). Just say "OK" and then go straight to Target (pronounced "Tar-jay" with a soft "g"…which of course is French for "open your effin' wallet") and proceed to buy a gift that your younger kid would take to one of their friend's parties.

It's similar to the old "ruin the load of laundry trick"…but different…but with the same results.

Was in and out of Target in less than 5 minutes and I haven't been asked to do anything of the sort since. (This was 5 years ago.) Mission accomplished.

How was your Father's Day?

We spent the day at the ball park. Had a 9am game. Team went 0-2 Saturday so was expecting a short Sunday. Kids played great though and ended up playing in the championship game at 3. Long, hot muggy day. We ended up losing in the last inning but my son played great. Hit 2 (in the park) home runs and a couple triples. He got the teams first game ball and that was a dope Father's Day present. #livingvicariously

Wife and I don't really get into Mother's Day/Father's Day too much. We usually buy ourselves whatever we like whenever we want anyway so we opt to be nice to each other and reflect on our perfect beautiful children. HAVING SAID THAT I treated myself to some KY Ale Old fashioned barrel ale and watched the NBA finals and GoT when those little rascals crashed around 8:30.

What do you guys do with your kids when they're out of school? Always feel bad for folks who have to figure out daycare/camps for their kids. My wife is a teacher so we are loaded AND she's home with them all summer.
