Hevesy said that the most likely to replace "starter" DRobinson was either Senior or Justin Malone. Interesting, because the general thought earlier in camp was they wanted to leave Malone at OG if possible.

Think his comment says Senior hasn't won the spot yet, or am I reading too much into that?

It seems more out of necessity due to a new lack of depth.

I wouldn't read too much into what he said today. Malone still hasn't bumped out last I heard -- which is the ultimate "tell" like you've said previously. Seems it's going to be a Senior/Warren/Carter battle at this time -- and we must feel good about one/two of them... Personally, I think Senior and Carter are both going to surprise people -- and I hope Warren does as well...

Today was the first day that Senior and Malone swapped reps. The knock against Senior over the spring was that he couldn't get his weight up. He says that he's at 300 now and doesn't get bullrushed as much.

Word is that Desper has stood out as well.

Two or three guys are going to have to step up if we are going to maximize our

opportunity this year. It is simple as that.

Yeah, realistically I think it comes down to Senior at OT or Clayborn at OG. Malone fills the gap out of those two.

Funny, the walk on has LG nailed down.

We have a good track record with big, mean country boys on the O.L.

If I had to pick a 2-deep, here's my baseless opinion.

LT- Clausell/Carter
LG- Clayborn/Desper
C - Day/Beckwith
RG - Beckwith/Malone
RT - Malone/Senior/Warren

I thought Senior and Carter both looked skinny last year. Hopefully they've both put on 10-20 pounds.

The good thing in all of this is that we should have 3 games to get the OL sorted out. Everyone should get some playing time and enough snaps to figure out who's going to be the guy going into LSU one month from today.

Senior has put on between 20 and 30 apparently...

Yeah, the 3 game 'preseason' is an important factor to consider as well. It feels like we have 10 calendar days to get this sorted out, but in reality it's probably more like a month.

I think we're going to be unpleasantly surprised...........

at how much USM has improved and how good So. Ala is. I think we'll win but I expect both games to be frustrating. We need to have an OL ready to go on 8/30.

My worries about the OL have kept my wool level in check this summer.

I feel the same. Starting 2 private school guys, 1 walk-on, and 2 two star linemen. Not saying they aren't or can't be good, it's just that they have a lot to prove. Hope they turn out to be our best OL ever.

You forgot to mention that one is Canadian.** That's pathetic.

It's our first game and USM is going to want to prove something.I know it is fun to rip on USM, but they aren't going to just lie down and die without any fight. They won their last game by a large margin (and came close to winning the game before that) which gave them some momentum going into the off-season. It may have only been one game but that one game showed them that they have made progress, that what they have been working toward could be worth it. They are on a one game winning streak, technically, and they want more. I think they're offense will score some points this year - maybe not against us though. Having said all of that, at the end of the day we win by a pretty comfortable margin.

I think you're overestimating both of those teams. Of course USM will be improved. But they had a LONG way to go. I doubt we cover the 30.5 point spread. But we will win comfortably.

Not saying there atent potential issues on OL but i think the complexity of our offense eases things a bit. If teams decide to blitz more than 1 extra lb or safty theres likely to be a man or 2 open with a qb that can scramble. That spells bad news for a D that takes those chances against us. Dont see a lot of that and as such more 1 on 1 work where, again with a mobile qb, we should be able to handle.

I very badly want you to be right.............

but people my age don't have good memories of USM. Last time we beat them badly was 40+ years ago. I think we'll win, sure of it really. I also think I'll leave that game wondering about us.

USA bothers me too. It's their big chance to beat a real team. I think we win but I don't think we blow them out.

Southern Miss is awful. No athletes or linemen worth a ****. We will roll by 35. However, I'm with you on USA. They're a tough team and could give us a handful on the road.

I can

understand we got our asses handed to us in the 1980s (and prior to), but the MSU football program from top to bottom is so far ahead of where we were 20+ years ago. We beat their conference champion last year like a drum. It wasn't even a contest. If we do not win by three touchdowns (minimum), I would be extremely surprised. This isn't the 80s. Def Leppard and USM suck.

What does the 1980s have to do with anything? MSU is very different than we were back then and USM is very different than they were back then. There just isn't any basis for comparison.

I get what you are saying but there is no substitute for physically controlling

both lines of scrimmage.
