Nice payday, but it’s hard to imagine this leading anywhere but an eventual sour ending. Whether it’s money, confidence, or both that’s preventing a long term deal, I just don’t see how things are going to change by this time next year

Could be a short term thing

This may just be there for a couple weeks while they iron out a few more details in a long term deal.

Unless the Cowboys front office has any interest in their starting QB staying away from practice and workouts until literally Week 1 game week (if not later) under a brand new coach, they’ll absolutely make sure it’s a “short term thing”. But they’ve been dragging their feet for 18 months already, so there’s no reason to expect them to stop now.

For a well-run franchise, I'd agree with you. But this is the Cowboys, so......

I'm sure Dak will still be there working his tail off to have the best year possible. He would only hurt himself to have a bad season next year

No, he would only hurt himself if he literally hurts himself. When healthy and fully participating, he’s as much of a known quantity as you could ever hope to get in the NFL QB free agent market. 4 years of data is out there, and anything he does after a massive hold out and under a totally new HC is going to be taken with a big *** grain of salt. He absolutely should not think about touching the field, entering the clubhouse, or even speaking to a single member of the organization until he either has a long term deal or he’s about to miss a paycheck. And that second one is totally negotiable and up to Dak....he can sit out a few if he really wants to crank up the leverage.
