You’re right

Where are you getting your stats? That number seems to grow every day around here.
Are you talking globally or US? Because if you are implying that flu kills 100k annually in the US, you are way off and might want to find a new source.

Not sure where I pulled that from. Upon further review, It was 80k a few years ago, but typically less than 60k. My English section on the ACT was rather low. My overall point is still the same. People don’t freak out about that number every year, and most people choose to not get vaccinated.

Ok, so you are taking the approach of no publicity is bad publicity. Gotcha.
That is a completely absurd approach to take when it comes to maintaining a reputation as an athlete.
Do what? It might be bad for political figures, but not athletes. I believe Nike ran an ad campaign with the catch phrase “Not a role model”. Being a perceived “bad boy” does not negatively impact athletes, unless it involves hitting dogs or women/children.

You mention a low english score. So is that the issue here? Is that why you continue to bring up flu numbers?

If you got a low english score, you may not know what 'novel' means. That is key to understanding why this is being treated differently. It isnt the only reason why, but its a big one. Go hit up merriam and webster to find out what it means.

I didn't accuse you of saying they are the same, I replied because its stupid to compare them.
There is a difference.

The rest of your post once again attempts to diminish the severity and importance of why this is being handled differently that the seasonal flu.
You say you get it but then you post like you don't. Its odd.

The fact that there is a difference doesn't mean you can't compare them. WHy the hell would you compare something with no differences?

The flu kills around 30-55k a year on average in the US and we basically do nothing to address it other than push vaccinations. Hard to say what Covid19 would kill if we didn't mandate anything economically destructive. Mayby 250k? Maybe even as high as 1M? And for that, we are "shutting down" significant portions of our economy.

I think at the very least, if we don't come out of this thinking we grossly overreacted we need to start approaching flu season very differently. I'm not sure it can be reasonable to basically ignore 30-50k deaths while "shutting down" over five times that many. Maybe there is a reason the ramp up in response wouldn't be something close to linear. I could see that at some point, if the illness was likely to leave us with worker shortages anyway. But not sure COVID 19 would get to that level. And of course there is the issue that the "shut downs" are not much different than what people would do voluntarily in many instances, so a decent amount of the economic damage would occur regardless of any government action.

Ha, so besides all the domestic abuse, all the child abuse, and all the animal cruelty stories that constantly circulate, bad publicity doesnt negatively impact athletes.

So out late drinking instead of being at the hotel doesnt create or add to a narrative that an athlete isnt motivated or doesnt have priorities straight?
Being busted for drugs(weed, pills, roids, supplements) doesnt hurt reputation?
Caught with guns doesnt hurt reputation?

Deon Waiters, Manziel, and many many more may disagree with you.
Bad publicity really can be bad publicity, even if it isnt for hitting **** you shouldnt hit.

If manzeil could’ve played, he’d still be in the league. They were trying to make this guy Namath 2.0, his partying was celebrated until it became apparent he couldn’t play.

ok, things are being lost in translation. when i said there is a difference, i was referring to what i had just typed- that i didnt claim you said they were the same, i said its stupid to compare.

you compared something.
i said its stupid to compare the two things.
you claimed i accused you of saying the are the same thing.
i clarified and said i did not accuse you of that.
i then clarified what i said and told you that there is a difference between what i said and what you claim i said.

now you took that word, difference, and applied to the comparison.

holy hell man.

I agree that we should treat the seasonal flu(s) differently moving forward. I disagree that all we do right now is get a shot. each fall into winter, there is discussion over hygiene(wash hands, cough corner, etc) at schools and places of work. signs are put up, etc.
I would love to see an increase in workers staying home if they are sick, but that will require companies to give more of a **** and figure out how to make it happen. When the choice is work and be paid or stay at home and not be paid, workers will often work and that is the fault of companies for not having better benefits. It hurts everyone.
