So have you worn one under the same conditions you laid out? Worn around every living soul you come in contact with? The only way to ensure not to catch it is live in total isolation. Or we can continue to live like we have throughout mankind’s long history and beat another virus like the millions before it. I personally refuse to live in constant fear.
You aren't completely wrong. I religiously wear it in school when I work around the kids/co-workers as well as in grocery stores, Lowes etc. I remove mine when eating at restaurants or drinking a beer at a sports bar. Suppose that is a risk and I have probably just been lucky to have not contracted it yet but we made a point of leaving a chair distance between us. 99 percent of everything I have done with friends/family has been outdoors or in a garage with doors open since this started.
I have probably been lucky not to catch it....but some of it has been my taking it serious from the start as well.
If more were taking even the smallest measures since this started, we might not be losing 2K Americans a day right now. That said, I get your point as well.

Definitely a greater risk with indoor dining given you have to take your mask off. I'm fine with just doing takeout so you don't have to worry about that. Can still enjoy the same good food that way but without that risk.

Yeah, I'm all for virus mitigation and listening to the science....but I do think the total shutdown of restaurants is a mistake for more than just economic reasons. People are never going to completely stop socializing short of an Ebola outbreak........and I'm not even sure that would stop the hard core anti maskers. They are a different breed.
All that is happening now is that the non-believers in this virus are inviting 20 people over to their house for a cookout since they can't eat out. Then nobody is wearing a mask at the cookout and they are hanging together inside the house spreading it even worse than at a restaurant imo.

No, the point is you’re an idiot. You’re talking about something your heard someone say but don’t understand any of it. You aren’t getting some mega does of virus that suddenly takes over. It doesn’t matter if someone sneezes in your face or you touch a doorknob and then rub your eyes. The virus will start to grow immediately. It’s still going to be low at first because it must reproduce over and over and over some more. The mask has absolutely nothing to do with the viral load or severity the virus will have in your body.

“The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people with low ability at a task overestimate their ability. It is related to the cognitive bias of illusory superiority and comes from people's inability to recognize their lack of ability.”

This describes you perfectly. Your biggest issue (and you’re not alone on this, especially on this forum) is that you think you are intelligent on these matters. I would love to see where you get your information.

People are smart enough to take or mitigate whatever risk they feel good about. If indeed, this was like the movie that a person turned into a zombie within seconds of being infected they would be afraid to leave home. A virus that has a 99% survival rate for most doesn’t have the same effect. Most can’t afford to lose their jobs and lifesaving because a bureaucrat tells them how to live. This isn’t a big deal for those living in moms basement but it’s a big deal for many. The funny thing is none of you can prove a mask has stopped even one case of Covid. You are just a mouthpiece spreading something with zero proof. Zero. Now people are wearing face shields like that’s stopping the virus. Lol. Virus don’t need a big glob of spit to be carried to someone. The stupidest people are also the most gullible.

All I know, from personal experience is when I came down with covid and was quarantined I made sure I exercised daily, good cardio, ate clean and drank lots ofwater. Never ran a fever, never had any breathing issues, just couldn't smell or taste for about a month. I made myself go out and jog every day (ALONE), played basketball and dosed up on Zinc and Vit C. It came and went without much fuss.

Not here to argue, just to share this experience from Gov. Beshear, where a mask very likely prevented him from becoming infected: https://apnews.com/article/virus-ou...lth-kentucky-e546be70d6eb74af53a376f84006ef47
For whatever it’s worth, a member of my family had the same experience. While caring for multiple members who had it (and sadly, eventually died), they wore a mask and did not become infected. I understand nothing is 100%, but in these cases, they did appear to help.

Before it hit the news, I had mild issues breathing for a few weeks, runny nose, and just felt like ****. My kids seemed to have a few symptoms of something around that time, and my girlfriend said there's a virus going around that they don't know what it is. She's a teacher. Kids tested negative for flu and they sent them home saying it'll probably pass in a few days.

Next thing I know covid hits, and none of us have had any issues.

Weird.

It has been here way longer than February.
