Dale, Jr.

While everyone was watching soccer, I was watching the race. Every day I am more convinced that Dale, Jr. is one of the worst drivers on the circuit. Spun his tires on a restart causing half the field to stack up behind him. And for all of you Dale, Jr. fans, I assure you that the consensus in the garage area is that he is extremely overrated. And that even comes from many at Hendrick Motorsports.

and that has been proven by his time at Hendrick. Everyone assumed he would be a better driver and live up to his potential once he had the chance to drive championship equipemnt on a championship team. But, he's done nothing but get worse. I hate to see it and hate to see the name "Earnhardt" in those spots of the standings and race results. True shame

He has all the best equipment and support in NASCAR and he can't do squat with it. Seems like an alright dude, but he's a terrible driver.

Look how many times he has driven right past his pit stall this year.

They also had one race where all of the Hendrick cars were setup pretty much exactly alike. They (Hendrick) admittedly missed the setup. Gordon, Johnson, and Martin fought the car but kept it in the top 20 and on the lead lap. Their teams improved the car with each pitstop, and they salvaged a decent finish. Dale, Jr. could barely drive his and they did nothing to improve it from the beginning of the race until the end.

He probably should still be there. At least he would be competitive and win some races. I like him fine, but he doesn't do Hendrick justice. However, he is definitely a money maker and that is the bottom line.

Signing Jr. was just a marketing deal for Hendrick. Rick Hendrick is a very smart business man. He has three great drivers and he has "little E". Dale Jr. makes Hendrick a killing due to merchandise sales.

Labonte hasn't even won a race in the past few years (since 2003 I think). If it weren't for his 2000 Championship, I would have to say he is equally as dismal as Dale Jr.

1. Labonte is one of only 6 active drivers with championships (stewart, gordon, kurt busch, johnson, and kenseth are the others). Hamlin, Burton, Martin, Harvick, Kyle Busch, Bowyer, Edwards, Biffle, etc. have never won a championship.

2. You can't compare Labonte's equipment over the last few years with Earnhardt's.

3. Labonte is not recognized as one of the top 5 or 10 drivers by the fans. I will agree Labonte isn't a top 5 driver, probably not even top 10. If you ran a public fan poll of best drivers, Labonte would not be in the top 10, therefore I don't consider him overrated.

4. But if you ran a public fan survey, Earnhardt would be near the top.

My point is that Earnhardt is extremely overrated. If you got the consensus of crew chiefs, drivers, etc. (and I have) you will find that I am correct. Pretty much every driver on the circuit (Labonte included) has been hired or fired based on production, potential, etc.. Earnhardt is the exception. He has done nothing to deserve a Hendrick seat other than being named Earnhardt.

When the time comes that Labonte sucks while being named the most popular driver, selling the most merchandise, getting the most commercials, driving the best equipment for the best team, and getting constant blowjobs from the tv announcers, then your post will have merit.

Now that Tony Jr. has been demoted, and a real Hendrick engineer is the crew chief, this will be litmus test for him.

So far, I've seen a marked improvement in his performance the last two races. Not so much in the finishes, thanks to Carl Edwards at Sonoma and mother nature at Louden, but in the car getting better and moving to the front.

It's to late for him to make the chase this year, but if he doesn't make it next year I'll agree with you on the "overrated" statement. </p>

How does a guy upgrade his team and get worse from one year to the next? I don't know.

But he wasn't bad last year or before. Something else is up. Not sure what. Maybe he's on drugs. Or...some people say there's a woman to blame...
