When was the last time, if ever, that a true freshman made that big of a play for us? I really like the poise that this guy has. I'm very glad we took a chance on him late in the recruiting process.

Wayne Madkin's first start was @ SC...

We won 38-0... We need that type of play out of Williams Thursday night to have a shot. We have to be able to run the ball and mix in the pass. Our D will play well. Madkin was a freshman as well I don't remember whether or not he was a redshirt.

Tyler will be playing per Tyler...

...so we can look for our senior QB to go out a winner on his home field against OM. Sounds pretty good to me.

But I'm sure Damian will provide some much needed ground support.

Sounds good, but OM's D looked like they could pressure a pocket passer. Hopefully our OL plays well.

I hope this exact situation happens. Tyler has really had a solid season when he has been healthy. I would love nothing more than to see him have a big game in the egg bowl.

What about this year makes anyone think Tyler would have more success against OM than he had last year?

If OM is allowed to pin their ears back, we are in trouble -- both in the run game and passing game...

Tyler won't have a good game because

He's just not that good. Sorry. Hello Damian

Let's see, a senior QB who has played in big games or a 6' true freshman who had offers from southern and Tulane. Russell deserves the start and we will win

He's completed 65% of his passes this year and holds the season record for passing yards at the school. I'd say he's very good, and your and idiot. Neither Williams nor Prescott will ever be potential NFL quarterbacks, even though they are better suited for Dan's system. I'm not saying Tyler is great, but to say he's not good is very ignorant.

What has Tyler done to make so many state fans not like him? He's put up pretty good stats without any dominant receiver. Has never played in an offense that really suits him either. The guy has been a good player and representative of MSU. Is he Peyton manning? No, but he's also not Hening.

THIS is 100% truth. State could have won the Egg Bowl last year had Prescott been given 50% of the snaps. Dak would beat them this year, too. But, he is apparently out. So, our slim but real chance of victory lies on true freshman, third string Willams. Play Tyler and it is a guaranteed loss for State. Hate to say that, but it is true. Lead footed Tyler Russell will be devoured by Ole Miss. Must go with a dual threat guy, even if that guy is a green, lightly recruited RS Freshman.

So it is true that we cannot win Thursday with Russell? You sure that's not an opinion. I don't care if Williams does give us a better chance (which I don't really think that he does), but to say that it is a fact Russell can't beat Ole Miss is garbage. Also Williams is a true frosh, not RS. Semantics, I know, but a full year is a big deal.

And I don't know, but maybe the facts that the Egg Bowl is in Starkville, it is his last home game of his college career, he's got a chip on his shoulder from last November, he's actually played well this year, and the fact that this is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT GAME from last year could be reasons he will have more success than last year.

I personally don't think he will play due to injury and it be the Damian show, but the negativity from some of you guys is just at stupid levels.

Well damn! That don't leave us much game then does it?

Did you just skip what happened last year with Russell? So I ask again -- what makes you think this year can or will be different?

Williams gives us a better chance to win -- and he did yesterday against Arkansas too. Our offense can't do **** in the red zone with Russell. How many times does he have to prove it before people accept it?

What's with the TR hate? Maybe better OLs (Tobias tapped out), better WRs. TR wasn't the reason we lost the game last year.

Ok I'll bite.

1. Our offensive line is improved since last year.

2. We will be playing at home with a great environment.

3. Last year we couldnt run the ball at all. If Robinson gets the majority of the touches, we will be able to run against them.

4. It will be Tylers last game, probably ever. A fifth year senior who desperately has something to prove.

5. Tyler didn't have a component DC last year who could keep their offense at bay and insisted on blitzing our Thorpe winning DB instead of letting him lock down Moncrief.

6. Williams is not ready to go 60 minutes and beat a Ole Miss. When its said and done, Ole Miss will have beaten 3 teams with 8 wins or more. They are beatable, but it will take a veteran QB.

We should have brought in Williams in some of the red zone chances in the first half of yesterday's game. Certainly down inside the five.

I agree. I have no problem with TR playing Thursday, but not inside the 10. TR just can't complete drives when the passing windows tighten up

Fellas you can't argue with stupid. Williams needs to play also. Tr is a great guy, but he's injured, can't run. Tsun will pin their ears back and sack him 10 times if we don't play Williams. Also if dan keeps doing stupid **** like running perk up the middle and not playing jrob we aren't gonna win either way. This is dans game to win. We will see how bad he wants to win when he puts our personnel out on the field on opening drive.

You have horrible observation skills if you think he's only 6 feet tall. Try 6-2 230lbs

I would be surprised if he was a centimeter taller than 6'0".

Who comes up with this ****?

Tsun will pin their ears back and sack him 10 times if we don't play Williams. .

This is about the tenth time I've read that TSUN will pin their ears back. If you check the numbers TSUN averages 1.4 sacks a game. To put the number in context, TSUN averaged 2.8 sacks a game. State averages 1.4 sacks a game. That ties them (and 7 others) for 99th in the nation.

Williams is 6 ft. I've been telling you guys that

He can play and now he is making me look like a genius. I can guarantee you ole miss fears Williams mor than Russell. I wish Tyler nothing but the best and I do believe he will make it in the NFL.

Tyler's problem in the redzone is playcalling. He doesn't suddenly become a different QB when he gets in the redzone. If they gave him Josh Robinson and a fullback and ran the ball in the redzone, we'd be finishing drives just fine.

Everyone in this thread bashing Russell should have their fan privileges revoked.

If Dak is out and Tyler doesn't play we won't get 250 yards and take one hell of an *** whipping. One would have to be insane to think that Williams can manage this game better than Tyler. You people are so upset with Tyler for proving that Mullen isn't an offensive genius.

Yeah and I'm sure they averaged about the same last year but what did they do to us?? If we put Tyler in their we will not win period. We can mix it up with Williams and have a good chance but Tyler alone will not get it done.
