but I can't even begin to think of a topic that hasn't been discussed. Saturday can't get here fast enough. I can't remember a game week that seemed to take so long.

Where does this game rank in importance since the 1980 season? Sry if German

My qualifier is 'since the 1980 season' and I include all of the Battles for the Golden Egg and all post season bowl games. Obviously the SEC championship under The Kang, and I'l also say the Gator Bowl. There is so much upside/downside to a win or a loss IMO, it is mind boggling. I just feel like this is the year Dan needs to show he can beat one of the West's teams not named the Bears.

This game is really no bigger than Florida and Georgia in 2010....

Auburn isn't even ranked, and MSU is favored. It will be huge to get that SEC West victory, I don't underrate that accomplishment, but its really will be just a small step forward.

As far as ranking the importance of this game compared to other seasons? Its way down the list. You can pick any number of games from 1998-2000 as more important, and any Egg Bowl in which a bowl bid was on the line. That's just for starters. The upsets of Auburn and Alabama in 1997 probably rank higher as well. Heck, the wins over Alabama in 96, 97, and 98 are probably all bigger.

Not as important if we win, terrible if we lose. Possibly devastating

If we win then we just beat an unranked opponent with 2 new coordinators and a bad qb that will likely go 7-5. But if we lose then OMG... haven't beaten anyone but Ole Miss!!!!!! I'm getting really tired of hearing that.

I agree with you, but the Barn starts ot 0-2, there is not a snowballs chance in hell they get to 7 wins. And if they do, in fact, start out 0-2, there is going to be a lot bitching and bemoaning Cheesedick down on the Plains. Seat getting very warm, notwithstanding what Mr. Salley might say otherwise.

SEC teams beat at home

Ole Miss - 2009
Georgia - 2010
Kentucky - 2010
Ole Miss - 2011

Dan Mullen is 4-8 at home in SEC games... if you want to get to where we want to be, you have to win conference games at home(period)

How about discussing this ...

but I can't even begin to think of a topic that hasn't been discussed.

This is one Auburn fan's view of the game ... http://flywareagle.com/2012/09/04/week-two-auburn-at-mississippi-state-preview-and-prediction/

It is an interesting to see how 'they' view the game. He does write that the defenses will determine the outcome but includes this ...
"The Bulldogs gave up 109 rushing yards on 21 carries to Jackson State (5.2 yards per run), which isn’t bad, but it could be better considering it’s against an FCS opponent."

He never considers that the second or third team defense was playing when a majority of the rushing took place.

These are 'his' edges for the teams
:
Auburn vs. Mississippi State edges:

Quarterback:
Auburn
Running back: Auburn
Wide receiver: Auburn
Tight end: Auburn
Offensive line: Auburn
Defensive line: Auburn
Linebackers: Mississippi State
Cornerbacks: Mississippi State
Safeties: Auburn
Kicker: Auburn
Punter: Auburn
Coaching: Auburn

If we win, not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. Fan will be woolier than all get out though.

If we lose, not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. Media and fans will be in full blow out melt down mode.

I beg to differ regarding the Florida and Georgia in 2010. It was great we won those but they aren't division rivals for us and MUCH more is expected by the fanbase from Mullen's program in year 4 than was expected in year 2. In fact if we go 6 or 7 wins this year in year 4 its going to make year 2 look like sort of a fluke with a couple of wins over perennial East powers that were down that year. This year, in general, will show much more where our program is headed under Mullen than 2010 did.

Damn Biscuit, that may be one of the most delusional articles I've ever read. You have to like the complete false statements he states as facts, like....Auburn having a "dominant" offensive line. And then his theory on why they will win is...we'll tackle better this week, Frazier will throw better this week, the running game will continue to be good behind our dominant offensive line, and Van Gorder will not be torched 2 weeks in a row?? So basically, this cat just thinks they're going to be better in every phase of their game, thus resulting in a win? Great logic. And I love how he claims Auburn to be better than us at every single position except Corner and Linebacker. I have never wanted us to beat the **** out of a team more than I do this weekend.

If we win, everyone will just start saying, "Under Dan Mullen, MSU has only beaten one SEC west team other than Ole Miss." Then once we break that, "Under Dan Mullen, playing at Arkansas, MSU has not won yet ." The point is they will always find a stat to downplay MSU. But we have to start somewhere!
