"...as much raw power as anyone in the 2015 class."

And he's thrown 87 off the mound?

Barring an injury, he's getting drafted. I hope we can keep him

Our best power hitter (Garner) is no longer on the team because he was not allowed to swing it.

I can distinctly remember a number of his ABs, especially in PH roles, resulting in 3 straight swings and misses. So obviously he was allowed to swing it.

Garner left because he wasn't going to get any playing time, and because Gavin Collins is a stud.

Yup. Sorda similar to recruiting an elite, top notch QB from another state. Slim to none in getting him.

Maybe this is totally wrong as I don't really understand the need for such a strict scholarship limit for baseball, but I feel like if the scholarship limit was raised, it might make a little better case to guys for playing in college a few years and improving both their stock and experience instead of making late round chump change in the minors for years, and possibly never even making it to a sustainable level. I know this doesn't apply as much to elite prospects like this guy; just something I've been thinking about recently.

As much as we give the guy ****, that was Polk's ***** about Title 9. But that's the nature of the beast when it comes to baseball, who can fault a guy for signing a decent contract, vs getting a 1/3 scholarship to play college ball.

Exactly. And what's more or less a no brainer at the time of making the decision probably robs many players of a decent career in the long term.

Of course Polk was right about that. But he was fighting a fight he had no chance of winning and neglecting his job as our coach in the meantime.

The thing

that pisses me off is why we don't hear about him fighting this now. He may be. I don't know, but you just don't hear anything about him doing so.

It's really ridiculous that schools (like Vanderbilt) get to offer a great deal more in scholarships that us, because of some in-state lottery, etc. It's just not an even playing field, whatsoever, from what I understand.
