There's a post on Lex sub of Reddit megahyping their chicken. It's about to get gentrified all to hell.
The funny thing is, I assume their recipe is something that got sent out to grocers back in the day. It tastes *exactly* like the fried chicken at the old grocery store in Carlisle.

Doesn’t take anything away from it, it’s still dope.

You can still come to the one in Whitesburg and get your chicken, biscuits and a 5$ bj from your cashier in the bathroom.
[laughing]

I hit up Thirsty Heifer in Whitesburg two years ago. The blond working the bar was a babe.

Was the old grocery store in Carlisle Sloan’s? There were multiple Sloan’s Markets in Eastern/North Eastern Kentucky.

No, local owner. But oddly enough Sloan’s was rumored to be buying it when the man who owned it was in declining health.

That deal fell through and it was turned into a Sav a Lot. Full circle. Except they removed the deli, so to hell with them

Haven't been in that place in years.

I'll have to swing by there now that you mentioned it.
I got the buffet. $8.58 or thereabouts. Sweet tea was also decent. Loved the cabbage, too. I may return Sunday.
Returned to Middlesboro Lee's around 12:30 pm this afternoon. Huge after-church crowd as folks struggled to find seats. Ordered the buffet again. No cabbage this time. Dumplings seemed much better.

Got my chicken gizzards fix for another few months. Life is good.

Thought every business in Carlisle is owned by a Garrett.

Just the ones that are left tbh. Garrett’s furniture is thriving without a single customer ever walking in the store, somehow

They have a restaurant across from the court house on Main. Had the fried chicken, was really dry and bland. But the butterscotch pie was good.

Yep, used to be on the other side of the square. His parents started it a long time ago, he took it over, made a brief stop over as sheriff and then out of town due to some “issues” while sheriff, then came back and opened up in the new place.

local institution and the pies are top notch
