Kid makes a 43 yard field goal as time expires to win it for Petal. Olive Branch jumped offsides. Has to re-kick from 38 with :00 on the clock and misses it.

in HS. Offsides is a dead ball. I've never liked that rule, it ought to be changed.

If the defense jumps offside on a FG or XP play the offense should get the option to take the play or replay the down. It affects too many games and more often hurts the kicking team.

Horrible rule, horrible. Like a fumble out of the end zone that goes to the other team at the twenty. Just don't agree with it.

Damn, what heart breaking loss for Petal......My heart bleeds for those kids......What an

It is unfortunate. In any higher league, the play would have stood and the kicking team would have had the option to take the field goal or the penalty. What a terrible way to end the game for Petal...<div>
</div><div>That's another thing for high schools, too... good kickers are a rarity. Even a lot of 6A schools have a hard time finding kickers who you can trust to kick anything outside extra points. Unfortunately, that's the way it goes, but I don't see that rule changing anytime soon. </div>

Damn, what heart breaking loss for Petal......My heart bleeds for those kids......What an

If you fumble the ball forward at the 20 and it rolls out of bounds at the 25, the team last in possession keeps the ball at the 25... in high school. In college and pro, you fumble the ball at the 20 and it rolls out at the 25, team last in possession gets the ball at the 20... BUT, should the ball roll out of bounds in the endzone, it's a touchback. So... You can't fumble a ball forward anywhere on the field of play, but you CAN fumble the ball forward out of bounds in the endzone and it's other teams ball. That rule should be changed to where you can't EVER fumble a ball forward.

Fumble a ball forward through the back of the endzone, it's a touchback. It's college and pro i have a problem with because it makes no sense to NOT be able to fumble a ball forward anywhere but the back of the endzone. If you can't fumble a ball forward and it rolls through the endzone, it should be the team that had possession's ball at the point where they lost possession. It only makes sense to keep the rule consistent everywhere on the field.

Damn, what heart breaking loss for Petal......My heart bleeds for those kids......What an

I'm talking about fumbling a ball out of bounds. Of course either team can recover the ball and advance, but I'm talking about it going out of bounds. Anywhere on the field, if you fumble the ball forward and it goes out of bounds, you keep the ball at the spot where you fumbled... EXCEPT if it rolls out of bounds in the endzone. That makes zero sense. Remember watching Ballard against Arkansas last year? He fumbled the ball at the 1 and had it rolled out of bounds before it went into the endzone, it would have been our ball at the 1. It didn't though... it rolled out of bounds in the endzone... Arkansas got the ball. That makes zero sense because the rule is completely inconsistent.

Damn, what heart breaking loss for Petal......My heart bleeds for those kids......What an

At least in every situation other than a fumble out of the end zone. Why should the defense get the ball, and 20 yards upfield at that, when they didn't recover the ball. The common sense rule on a fumble out of the end zone would be offense's ball at the spot of the fumble.

Damn, what heart breaking loss for Petal......My heart bleeds for those kids......What an

In high school, it's fine that the defense gets the ball at the 20 because the offense can fumble the ball forward for 8 yards and it go out of bounds and they get it where the ball goes out of bounds. It makes sense, and I'm ok with that, but it should be one way or the other... it shouldn't punish one team twice...

Defensively they looked in position most of the night but could not finish tackles. In fact for a 6A game, it really came down to who could tackle the QB for the other team. Looked more like a smaller school game.
