Damnit Cohen.....This Frost experiment is getting ridiculous.....

Frost is like Henig.....he's got no talent, but busts his *** in practice and somewhat looks decent. I understand Cohen wanting to reward him, especially since no one has jumped out and taken over, but damn, you're embarrassing the guy. Don't put him in that position.<div>

Frost is the most inept hitter I've seen at MSU in a long time... Maybe ever. Of all the times I can remember watching him bat in games, I can probably count on one hand the number of times he has actually put the good part of the bat on the ball and hit it with any semblance of authority. Frost is a pretty good baserunner and usually solid in the field, but you'd think the guy has never picked up a bat judging by his swing.
In a nutshell, that's why he can't hit.
I don't hate him at all- mainly because as some have said, he has some value- he can run, plays pretty good defense, and he is a pretty good bunter and he does play hard- there's no question about that. That doesn't mean he should be out there everyday of course, but he's hardly useless.
Some of the other guys mentioned- like Rutledge, Bunky Kateon, and Jet Butler- I did question their effort at times and that's my biggest pet peeve among baseball players at any level- aside from t-ball, rec league, and church league. Also, Polk kept putting Rutledge and Kateon out there for wayyyyyyy too long. Well into the SEC season. With Jet, we didn't have much of a choice because we lacked talent overall, he would be a role player on the team that we have now. I'm still shocked that the Mets drafted him. No wonder their team has gone to pot. At least Cohen has shown that he will sit Frost- which is what happened last year once SEC play started.
And in Cohen's defense- playing Frost was more excusable tonight than others. We had CT starting at pitcher, I think they were hoping to get Woodruff in as a pitcher- I know he pitched some in the bullpen, and Brent Brownlee has a gimpy knee right now. So, it made sense to start Demarcus in right field. We could have started Britton at second base, but he's playing bad defensively and he's not hitting much better than Frost is right now.

He plays hard and I respect that. He has a spot on this team as a defensive sub/pinch runner, but he's just not an SEC caliber starter... I would much rather have him on the team than a Jet Butler.
If he's so good in the field and a good bunter, why not just save him for the late innings? Pinch hit him when you need to move a runner over in the 8th or 9th innings, and then keep him in for defense.
I will admit I've not "seen" how bad he has looked at the plate, maybe it is horrific but to call it an experiment gone awry seems to be overstating it. Frost has only started 4 games out the 13 so far this season and came in as a replacement another 4 so I think the coaching staff isn't sold either. Maybe the late inning defensive replacement is his gig and they are just getting him some at bats to make sure it shouldn't be more. This is exactly what these preSEC games are for, figuring out what can work and what doesn't work so well in game situations.<div>

when we obviously are in such desparate need of middle infielders. Seems for 2B/SS we have 3 options right now (Frazier, Britton and Frost). So we have the option of the freshman Britton falling apart at SS due to nerves or whatever and who is a subpar hitter at the moment OR playing Frost at 2B which leaves a gaping hole in the lineup and who is only so-so in the field. Right now Cohen is giving us NO other options. We have a number of options right now in the outfield so it seems to be a no-brainer to move Henderson back to the middle infield. In the outfield, even without Henderson, we have Bradford, Brownlee, Renfroe, Stark and Woodruff. So that's five guys for 3 positions even with no Henderson. We really need to give Henderson a look at 2B over the next few games before the SEC starts. Also, is Brayden Jones so bad that he wouldn't be worth a look somewhere either at middle infield or another backup outfielder?
