he should shut up. Tony Parker will run circles around Dampier, and if the only way to stop one of the best drivers to the basket is to commit an intentional foul, then he should probably quit. As a big guy, I would like to body up and be physical, but to blatantly come out and say I can only stop him by trying to hurt him, then Dampier should give up.
Damp is not an offensive power, and they know that. his job is to defend and leave the offensive production to Dirk, JET, etc... He meant nothing by his comment other than the fact that he's going to send a message, and by gosh, he's right. He wasn't being dirty... He was just speaking candidly, and as a coach, I'd give him a pat on the back and say go to it...
