It's a positive though in one sense. Maybe it's not conforming so to speak and maybe it's justthe fact that the returnees upped their games a bit. Chris Hughes, Bohanna, Skinner, those guys are no slouches. I like the fact they are fighting it out and not simply rolling over to the guy with more experience. </p>
I think the quote was more directed at transfers and freshmen coming in thinking they're going to start automatically. They'll use the players that they have developed and work the defense around them first and foremost. Any new additions need to find a way to fit in and not expect for positions to shift open just for them.
we have a way of doing things at MSU and it's different than what Maye did at Clemson. He has to get rid of bad/different habits and do it the MSU way if he wants to start.
Side note: You could argue that Clemson does less with more than almost any program the past few years.

The conventional wisdom (at least on this board) was that MSU's LB corps are so depleted, Maye would be christened a starter the moment he walked on campus.
But if he is having difficulty rising through the ranks, then that means some talent is present @ the LB position.

Do you really just want Maye to fail? I understand that there's a possibility that he may not be as good as people want him to be, but why do you feel the need to constantly say that?
that Maye is a bust. It is obvious that he must be a bust since he didn't immediately come in and displace a bunch of guys that have been at State for 3 or 4 years and have now been through 3 springs & almost 3 fall practices under the current coaching staff. Obviously Maye sucks since he isn't first team.

but that they switched defensive schemes from an aggressive to a reactive defense, an injury happens, and he switches positions. Think about it like this: he's flourishes as a middle linebacker in a Diaz defense, then gets injured, comes back and Torbush moves him to weakside LB.
Point is- there's a bunch of other junk in the mix as to his why his production dropped.

I interpret as more of a statement to the team as a whole. If the strategy he is taking is that we are a hard working program he would hypocritical to skyrocket Maye up the depth chart immediately. The most important factor would be the team buying in/resepcting the head coach. How could the team not question the hc if he were to name a guy the starter before he earns it, even if he believe it may be true. It could adversely effect team chemistry ala nutt's season last year
A lot of people have been saying Maye is good because "he's from Clemson". I say, "so what".<div>

2) We know the HC Dan Mullen will only start the best
3) BM hasn't broken thru to become an obvious starter.......yet.
4) Perhaps BM is really good for ACC, but 2nd string for SEC
5) Perhaps we have some guys w/some great upside (coach speak here) to be excited about (more coach speak)
6) Perhaps BM will be ready deeper in the season

I dont think he is as good as everyone says he is either. He played in the ACC and they have been down every year he played at Clemson and now he has to convert to the SEC. Easier said than done but we'll see what pans out
There's been several good Clemson players from the past couple of seasons. CJ Spiller, Jacoby Ford, Jamie Harper, Da'Quan Bowers just to name a few. They've had decent talent but crappy coaching, and that's led to some lackluster recent seasons, although they got to the ACC championship game a couple of years ago. But as one poster alluded to, an ACC defense does not equal an SEC defense.
Especially if he is not even a starter for us. People on this board acted like we had just got Lawrence Taylor when Maye announced he was to transfer last spring.
My point is that he transferred b/c he was not staring at Clemson and wanted more playing time, why did people think he would start for us this year??

he transferred from Clemson. He started at MLB early onand they moved him to OLB where he had to cover more TE's and Slot guys so he was moved from his original position. I would be willing to bet he played MLB all up through high school. In some articles I read on him, he didn't feel he fit their scheme very well. I look at Chris White in our system as not having a whole lot of coverage responsibilities. Just run wild and make plays, and blow **** up. That is what he did and did it well. Maybe maye can do that or maybe he can't. I still think he will be way more comfortable at MLB than outside. He sure as hell looks like a physical specimen. my bet is that he can blow **** up when he gets the reads down. Worst case iswe have a very good back-up that can contribute.
