You think he’s lying? IDK. It’s hard to judge right now because I want to believe that Cohen was a problem now that he left the way he did. I don’t believe that the choice was all that hard for Mullen though unless the TN rumors are untrue and all the other countless times he was rumored to be a candidate for other jobs.
I mean, is it MSU's responsibility to put out PR statements on behalf of employees who voluntarily quit? Put out your own statement, which he eventually did.
Why does it matter? No one cares about that statement anyway.
The 2018 team with Mullen calling plays might have been the best in school history. No statement is going to change MSU fans feeling that Mullen robbed them of that season. And if it wasn’t Florida, it was going to be Tennessee. I’ll never understand how Mullen looked at that roster and felt like it was time to move on.

I agree with you. I guess if I look at it from Mullen’s perspective, how often do you get the opportunity at Florida… but damn I know he has to look back and wonder what he could have done with that 2018 team.

And he could have become the all time winningest coach at Mississippi State. I hate Mullen for leaving a year too early.
Sounds to me like sour grapes from Cohen. I'm sure he knew that Mullen met with the team to tell them he was leaving. It was his job to let the world know that Mullen did meet with the team and had left Starkville for Gainesville. He probably made a counter offer to try and keep him and Mullen said no. Shaefer left on bad terms as well.
It isnt their responsibility, no. At the same time, calling the highest paid person at the university(and I think the state at the time) just an 'employee' is not recognizing that there are clearly varying levels of employees and public facing employees who command so much media need to be handled differently than when a part-time custodian quits.
Businesses release statements when CEOs leave. Colleges release statements when players leave. MSU isnt legally obligated to release a statement when the head football coach leaves, but it may be good to do so.
Now is MSU agreed to release the statement as part of the discussions leading up to the change?...well then yes it is MSU's responsibility to release the statement.

He would never state it, but he was probably thinking he robbed himself as well. He has to wake up in the morning every morning thinking "Man I 17 up. " Today he probably would be a 10 million dollar a year man at Miss State if had stayed.
What Higher Tier P5 school than Miss State would hire Mullen today and be making the money he would be making at state if he had stayed? What higher tier P5 school would even hire him today? He's going to have to start at the bottom again if he gets back into coaching.
Didn't we release a statement on behalf of the university? I don't recall it being ignored in the media.

This. Most State fans (me included) won't ever forgive him for leaving at that point. Not only was 2018 stacked, but it was right after Fitz' injury and a horrific Egg Bowl loss that just encapsulated his late season swoons due to job-hopping. I don't blame Cohen for this at all, it's a non-issue.
The guy made a bad decision, simple as that (as far as football coaching anyway, not necessarily money). It reminds me a lot of Lane Kiffin right now, if he bails for aTm or Awwbarn.
I get that it's a convenient time to spew Cohen hate, but I don't really understand that either. It worked out for everybody.

Yeah but maybe it would have been the best thing for him. He wasn't scared of Stricklin at all, in fact, Loaferz was his *****. The only reason he got motivated to win big again after 2015 is because he wanted to get out. That's probably a big reason why he didn't succeed at Florida, Loaferz never put any real accountability on him. He tried to run that program just like MSU and he failed.
Fact of the matter is, Mullen was a micromanager himself, and that really only works at mid-level programs. He should have stayed. I'm having a hard time figuring out where a more perfect fit for Mullen would be than MSU. Maybe Penn State, Notre Dame or Nebraska in the new era. I just can't see him fitting in anywhere else in the SEC.......POSSIBLY Texas A&M but they are so damn weird.
