On being emotional after the game:“I was so proud of our kids; so proud of our kids. A lot of these kids that are playing that were recruited, when we went to recruit them, they believed in something to come to school here. We had a vision of what we could make this program in the future.”

If he gets another win and we go bowling should be no reason that he does not make 1.7 mil( Crooms salary after liberty bowl) next year. I am thinking closer to 2 mil with the jump in attendance. Regardless if we do not offer between close to 2 mil then we will likely lose him. GREAT WIN DAWGS!!!!

I just think there is no reason he should make less than Croom with liberty bowl if he is able to get another win to go bowling. Another win = 1.7mil regardless of bowl game outcome. More if we finish with more than six wins. 2 mil seems like a good number if more than 6 wins to end the season. .

After the defensive stop and we threw three straight passes I was pissed and screaming at the TV (much like many of you were I'm sure). I liked that Dan acknowledged the fact that the staff made bad play calls on that series and missed an opportunity as he was headed in at halftime.

but do you max out on a guy like Mullen before there's really even talk of another school wanting him? It seems that interest from another school is usually met by a raise from the current school when coaches stay put, and it just seems that if we hand him $2M, it won't be easy to go much higher than that in the coming years.

Assuming the season doesn't end up in a 5-7 or 6-6 collapse down the stretch, you absolutely have to give him a substantial raise, even if you don't absolutely have to due to other suitors. You need to reward his success and show him your loyalty now, before other suitors come calling. If you show yourself as an athletic department who only rewards raises when they absolutely have to, as opposed to when they are earned, you'll get left in the dust real quick when the first suitor comes calling.

I don't think you take it to your absolute maximum by any means. You need to have some room to go up when you DO have to fend off a suitor, but I think somewhere in the 1.5 to 2.0M for next year would be highly appropriate.

wasn't willing to pay a higher salary until someone else offered her a job...actually ended up offering her more than they did. She told me essentially: "Too bad, bud...you waited too long."..needless to say, I learned a lesson.

a head coach can have no more than a 4 year contract. This is, in my opinion, one of the best laws ever passed. Why every state doesn't do this is beyond me.

bump Dans salary up to 1.7 million and give Diaz a $150,000 raise. The jury is still out for Wilson because I have not been overly impressed with the progression of the D-line.

It's alot easier to talk about giving an extra 500-750K than it is to actually do it, especially is this economy.

Think about trying to raise that from boosters alone. Do you know 500 people willing to donate $1,000 bucks? What about 50 willing to give $10,000?

Diaz seems to be so focused on the sidelines.. let's keep him happy and if someday we have to hire another, at this point he seems to be head coach material in the near future... if we don't pay him, he'll bolt and we'll lose a good man...

We'll never be able to match what schools like Florida could offer, but has it ever occurred to you that giving him a substantial raise NOW might keep some of the next tier of schools from even offering? Or that if we try to screw him he might leave for even if we matched the offer? Mississippi is paying Nutt $2.5M. If we don't pay him $2M, we deserve what we get when he leaves.

All I'm really saying is that you don't nearly double a guy's salary after one exciting win. Jesus, we haven't even secured a bowl birth yet and some of you are ready to make the guy the highest paid person in the history of our athletic department. He seems to be on the right path to having a very good season and I've been on his bandwagon for two years, but I think there's a big difference in giving a guy a decent raise and making him one of the higher paid coaches in the country with our athletic budget. Let's see how the rest of the season plays out.

and I didn't mean to imply that we don't give him a raise if the season plays out like we think it will. All I'm saying is that I don't know that you can break the bank and have no room for future raises when others come calling.

For the poster that said that MSU should be able to hit the $3.5M/year mark, I don't know what we can do but I guarantee it ain't anywhere near that. I believe that there are 7 coaches in the country that make that kind of money and SEC schools that have double our budget like Georgia, Arkansas, and Tennessee don't even approach that.
