They are releasing the Dandy Dozen one player per day at ClarionLedger.com, starting today I believe. Todd Kelly has an interesting statistic on his blog reagarding Dandy Dozen QB's since 1989. This was in response to the comment that we might have 3 this year.

"Of that list, only seven - Campbell (Auburn), Fant (MSU), Jackson (Notre Dame), McNair (Alcorn State), Miller (Ole Miss), Taite (MSU) and Young (USM) saw significant QB action - at the Division I-A level."

b/c a lot of those guys, like Euell, Ray Ray, Drexler Johnson, Milons, were never projected at any point to be SEC QBs like the 3 this year are.

the point he was trying to make. That just drives down the number of actual quality QB's we have seen in the last 19-20 years. It really doesnt matter either way...7 D-1 contributors in 20 years - that isnt going to bring a lot of glory back to the Magnolia State.

that a low percentage of DD qbs ever actually see much time at QB in college. In other words: "Don't get your hopes up"

that it is completely unprecedented to have 3 QB's of this caliber in one MS class - assuming they play as they project.

Perriloux's departure would initially seem to help him, but in reality, I think it hurts his chances of ever playing. It a) allows Jarrett Lee to establish himself as the QB. That puts Garrett as a RS freshman while Lee is a junior. Therefore, Garrett doesn't see the field until his junior year at best. b) it gives Miles much more need to sign top flight QBs.

Experience doesn't always trump talent. What if Lee doesn't establish himself? Just because he plays for LSU doesn't mean he will automatically become good.

1. Lee establishes himself
2. LSU recruits several other QBs better than Garrett.

and yes, experience helps. Hell, just being a veteran helps. See Matt Flynn starting over Ryan Perriloux. Its not often a hot shot younger player overtakes an established starter. See Kodi Burns/Brandon Cox, Mitch Mustain/Terrible Ark QBs, Tim Tebow/Chris Leak, Eli Manning/Romero Miller...it can happen, but the odds aren't with the younger player.

....like Russell Shepard from Houston, TX? The #2 ranked QB in the nation for the 2009 class who has already committed to LSU?

every year. But, hey. Can you blame the guy for taking one trip to Baton Rouge and falling in love with the place? I mean, it's Baton Rouge.

Although I think we can all agree that being an NFL All-Star and QBing a team to the Super Bowl trumps Fant's and Young's Div. I-A playing time.
