Dave Jones early prediction for 2023? 8-4!

This guy is such a piece of work. From a Pennlive article this week, guess he was on McGloin’s podcast.

The Paydirt hosts asked me to make a prediction, which I think is impossible in February. But just to be a good sport, I played along. They said 9-3 (McGloin) and 10-2 (Hannifan). I said 8-4 simply because I have a lot of trepidation about rookie starting QBs in the Big Ten, even acknowledging Allar's prodigious skills. Maybe it won’t matter.

A piece of work is an understatement.

I saw that podcast a few days ago. I think he is a bit more pragmatic than most.

He seems much more confident on some of PSUs opponents than most.

Yeah, a new QB always creates some doubt in any team, except for maybe Alabama

The last two times we started new QB’s we won 11 games. An 8-4 prediction is ridiculous. There isn’t one beat writer for any top 10 ranked preseason team that will predict 8-4 for program they cover. But we have one. Even if we go 8-4 the prediction would be ridiculous.

Franklin should be on the hot seat if we finish 8-4. Here are my position comparisons vs 2022:

QB - possibly worse to start but even by mid season
RB - better
OL - better
TE - even
WR - even

DE - better
DT - worse
LB - better
DB - slightly worse

4 better (OL, RB, DE, LB)
2 worse (DT, DB)

I agree that Allar is unknown but we don't play OSU or Michigan until later in the season. Allar could lose an early game for us but he's not a true freshman. I'd also like to think we can beat either OSU or MICH once Allar gets up to speed. 9-3 would be very disappointing. There's no excuse for 8-4.

When you can't even get any homerism from the local beat 6 months before kickoff... who needs enemies?

We have to wait and see about development and injuries, obviously ... but 10-2 seems pretty realistic. Somewhere between 11-1 and 9-3 would be a realistic range, from exceeding expectations to disappointment. 12-0 and 8-4 (or worse) is just being a turd.

But some people get their jollies getting upset at things meant to get them upset.

I’m no fan of Jones but it’s not a ridiculous prediction. As of now, both Ohio State and Michigan have to be considered as losses.

Then add in you’re starting a new QB who may drop a game or 2 that a more experienced QB like Clifford would have pulled out. Between starting his first game against WVU then having Iowa, @ Illinois, and @ Michigan State on the schedule I could see another loss or 2. My too early prediction would be 9-3.

No, it’s not a ridiculous prediction but it’s just another in a long line of condescending disrespect from Jones. When was the last time he said something positive about the program? F David Jones.

So what’s the prediction for OSU since they’re starting a new QB as well? I bet Jones isn’t predicting them to go 8-4.

Pretty sure he said 6-6 last year, how did that work out for him? Another OSU homer- I wonder if there any PSU grads that write about OSU football for the Columbus Dispatch?
Funny thing I see about Jones is he never wears anything PSU, which is fine if he’s trying to show he’s not biased, but he wears every other school out there. I’ve seen him wear a Pitt shirt, an Illinois shirt, an MSU shirt, and who knows how many others.

No one else is either. OSU has a bit more talent on their roster.

My neighbor bro bob (DE grad) told me he has lots of State bros and some got a house DE STATE weekend. I’m gonna try and grab some couch if I can
So you're going to host AND be at someone else's house at the same time. Seems perfectly laKavwhatever-like.

Unless he's wearing your clothes, let's not worry about what another man wears.

Agree with everything except I'm going to go WR-Better.

After watching the final four regular season games and the Rose Bowl- I can honestly attest to the fact that right now Penn State is the program that nobody wants to play. I have not felt that way about Penn State Football in a long, long time.

They do? OSU is breaking in a new QB too. While McCord will be entering his 3rd season he has thrown less passes in 2 seasons than Allar did as a true frosh. OSU lost several good players to the NFL. I like the fact that PSU has both of their coordinators back. We’ll see

No if I get the couch, moms will host. I’ll be at zenos
Wait, wut? So now, you're going to host, but leave your wife to do the hosting if you get to go to someone else's house, and if you go to someone else's house, you'll actually be at a bar (I'm assuming Zenos is a bar)? The mind of laka is a scary place. If someone shines a laser pointer at a wall, do you jump around and paw at it?

It's laka ... nothing is off the table. Zenos could be his drug dealer's place. Or his imaginary friend's house. He never said he'd be at a house in State College!
