David Bradberry is the new coach at Tupelo HS....

He wasn't there when I played against St. Andrews, but I'm pretty sure he had them undefeated and 1 game away from the state championship game one year. wbc40 or someone correct me if I'm wrong.</p>

I was at Madison Central when he was at Clinton, and of course we played them every year. He and Justice had a good rivalry going on.

If I were Tupelo, I would have loved for them to get Jamie Mitchell.

But I don't think Bradberry is a bad choice at all. He coached several MSU players- Hazelwood, Dontae, Clarence McDougle, Coco Hodge and MSU recruiting legend JJ Grant.

Where did you see this? He just left St. Andrews to take an administrative position at the MHSAA. I was under the impression that he was going to take over for Ennis Proctor.

Bradberry is a great coach and a great man. I would have left Clinton for another school and more playing time if it weren't for him. Tupelo got a good one.</p>

We went from 2-8 to 7-3 in his first year with virtually the same players. He is a hell of a coach.

doesn't really put an emphasis on football, which is a shame.........Tupelo has always done less with more than any school in the State..........I know for a fact that Brad Petersen and Jamie Mitchell both applied, but given the new Supt. they have up there, he wants the players treated like they are "his sons" and no cursing/swearing, etc, therefore the departure of Eric Collins.....I've never seen a football coach worth a damn that didn't curse like a sailor and piss vinegar.........

Ricky Black and James Sloan are two that were successful at Tupelo that didn't cuss like sailors. I don't have anything against cussing, but that's a stupid statement.

I don't blame Tupelo for having some standards in place, even though you are right that they produce way too little with the resources they have.

I played for him 2 years at Clinton. He was a good coach and good man off the field. In my option he ran the ball way to much. We ran 80 percent of the time. But we always had a good running back too. Their is one down fall of him. He did not handle Dontae Walker well at all. Dontae was both irrogant and had a terrible attitude. Dontae did whatever he wanted and whenever. Dontae never showed up in the summer for weights. Dontae would quit the team and Bradberry would go to his house and beg for him to come back. In a way Bradberry is at fault for the way Dontae acted in college. It doesnt sound like Jackie could handle him any better.

(I'm only curious because I played for him a while back)
Of the two head coaches I played for, coach Mitchell was my favorite. I don't remember him swearing like a sailor or anything.

I've been around both of those coaches a lot and you're off base. Neither of them cuss much, if at all...and they were/are quite successful...don't be a dumbass. Go check your facts on Tupelo winning. Maybe not as much in football as in other sports, but winning at Tupelo is the norm, not the exception. You reek of jealousy.

How many State titles did those guys win between them? (1)........Hell, how many did they even play for (1)......So, in essence they were good guys but couldn't bring home the hardware.....Nice guys finish last.....Hell, Tupelo couldn't even win State last year and they arguably had the best damn talent........Even others here have agreed that Tupelo football consistently does less with more......Bradberry will be the same.....The new Sup't. doesn't give a rats *** about sports, PERIOD and that I know for a fact.......BTW, I'm from the Tupelo area......

Bradbury is not a good coach. He's a great coach! He's also got a large number of coaches coaching in MS that played for or coached under him. I would say he's a top 5 coach in the state. Maybe top 3.

We consider the Tupelo job one of the top jobs in the state. After Booty Sloan left, the following are the coaches that were hired: Johnny Hill, Phil Ferguson, Eric Collins, David Bradberry. Now I don't know about you, but none of those names are coaches that Tupelo people even knew about. Maybe Hill (who was from Oxford) was known. But he was hired by the principal that came from Oxford, so it looked like no search was actually done. Phil Ferguson came out of left field, and was the most pathetic hire ever. Collins came from some high school in Louisiana (really, there were no local coaches that were worth considering?), and now Bradberry. Bradberry may be great, but you can see where we are very cynical when it comes to decisions on hiring coaches. The community is behind one or two candidates, and pow, some coach we've never heard of is announced.
Just once I wish Tupelo would get it right and hire someone with Tupelo ties that we could all get behind. Chris Jones (former MSU reciever) interviewed (he currently coaches in Memphis). Jamie Mitchell was well liked, but that was too easy. Jimmy Mitchell, who was defensive coach when I played at THS, has been very successful in Corinth. Even John Darnell, current offensive coordinator at Northeast (who lives in Tupelo), would be a possibility (don't know if he applied). But come on, this Sh## will probably repeat itself in 3-4 years! I hope Bradberry succeeds, but based on past experience of Tupelo hires, I have my doubts.</p>

but not positive. I know Hill had his son there to quarterback. And Todd Jordan was there around the time Ricky Black left.

You're a mouthy mf'er. I asked about Bradberry and everyone that's encountered him has good things to say...and then there's you and your "I hate Tupelo" tirade. 17 you. Go check the All Sports award by the Clarion Ledger and see what school has won it the most times...maybe then you'll get a clue. Tupelo is moving forward with football to try to make it as competitive as the rest of the sports. That's why the guy the couldn't win last year with all that talent is now unemployed.

I've only been to a couple of games since graduating in 93, but it's been way too long since Tupelo has had a winning program year in and year out.

Tupelo has several issues that they need to address within its athletic department. It sounds like hotdigitydog has some type of connection to some current coaches or is one himself. I know this because some of the coaches at Tupelo have told me exactly what he said about the new superintendent:

<span style="font-weight: bold;">"the new Supt. they have up there, he wants the players treated like they are "his sons" and no cursing/swearing"</span> <br style="font-weight: bold;">
The absolute biggest problem that Tupelo has to address, if it wants to be successful in football and basketball, is that it can not ask its coaches (head and assistants) to teach a full load of classes. It is ridiculous that the Head Football and Basketball coach at one of the largest high schools in the state has to teach a full load....RIDICULOUS!!!! I agree that the Ferguson and Collins hires were terrible hires, but I like the Bradberry hire.

Also they have got to get the big 3 coaches (baseball, football and basketball) to work together to allow athletes to play more than one sport. I know that Enis (baseball) and Collins (football) did not get along at all. I know the 8th grade coach, and while I have not asked him about Bradberry, he told me he wants the new coach to let him teach his scheme at the 8th grade level. I know all the Tupelo guys will agree that the guy that made Tupelo football what it was in the 80's and 90's was Mickey Linder (9th grade football coach).

the beginning of Tupelo football mediocrity. He always had his 9th graders prepared for that next step. He is definitely sorely missed. He also use to scout Tupelo's next opponents on Friday nights. I think that was invaluable as well. I saw him the other day and got to talk with him for about an hour. He is still sharp and looked really happy, which was good to see.

He was absolutely an excellent coach as you said in preparing guys for the next level; and personally the best coach I ever had.... We were undefeated that year as well.

Played for Bradberry at Clinton in the early to mid 90's with JesterB. Great coach and an even better man. Always kept up with him since I graduated and followed his carreer as he retired from the public school system and double dipped while at St. Andrews. I assumed he was in line to take Dr. Proctor's spot as well but there must be an issue there for him to leave the MHSAA to coach in the public sector again. To answer your question, Tupelo got the 'right' guy. Is he the AD as well? He held both positions at Clinton.
