Well our one fan has got three award winners in a row to cheer about. Best basketball player for Howell Award, Gary Flowers. Best Baseball player for Ferriss Award, Todd McInnis and now Conerly Award for best football player, Austin Davis. That is three straight awards for our one fan to enjoy. You could almost say we own this state, but I won't go there. Somebody already claims that.

I don't think Banks was even the best player on this team. I wonder what made Mullen go with Banks instead of Ballard or Cox. Or last year White instead of McPhee or Sherrod. Banks is incredible, yes, but Cox is a once in a decade type player, especially for MSU.

That being said, Austin Davis isn't bad. I thought the Delta State quarterback deserved it though. What he's done in Division II is pretty impressive, I don't care who you are or your bias.

That would make a lot of sense. Cox really came on the last leg of the season, Banks was red hot from the start. Not sure how Sawyer got on that list though.

Last I saw of him, we were knocking him off the mound in Atlanta...

LOL!! Yes you did. My mistake though, it was Tyler Koelling that won the Ferris Award, not McInnis. Oh well, three straight awards is still pretty good for a school with one fan.

I'm not taking anything away from his accomplishments, Austin Davis had an impressive career and he won the Conerly fair and square, but the voting for the Conerly states that they can't count in NFL consideration but it doesn't say anything about career stats going back to previous seasons. He finished 2nd last year. I think he could have won 7 or 8 games and won it.

It's hard to make a case for a corner. He doesn't get to put up really measurable stats like rush yards, pass yards, or touchdowns like offensive players and he doesn't get to put up gaudy defensive stats like linebackers or defensive ends with sacks and TFL. His presence on a receiver is his stat, and the way the Clarion-Ledger and the rest of the media around Mississippi looked at our season as a disappointment... It doesn't surprise me Banks didn't get it.

I still think Micah Davis should have won though. Back-to-back national championships.
