But if you're saying we earned that run with no help from TN, then you're sadly mistaken. Not even saying we wouldn't have gotten it anyways, but we had several chances that we had already blown, so it was not a sure thing without their assistance there.

I always thought a "fielder's choice" was the result of another base runner getting thrown out because the fielder has an easier play other that going to first thus allowing the batter to reach safely..

yet the bases were loaded after the play and no out was recorded.. we had 1 out before the play with 2 on and after the play the bases are loaded still with one out...

I guess I may have forgotten the definititon of "fielder's choice"

signed

happy *****, even though I may have forgotten the rules of baseball

other than the force at first. It would be assumed that the ground ball and resulting play would have been able to get the batter-runner out at first. The play, however, didn't go to first, so the batter-runner isn't credited with an infield hit. The play went to third, even though the throw was dropped... and the play was close enough that an error wasn't charged to either player. So, that's why it's ruled a FC.

have been safe even if the had hung on and not dropped it? because the runner may have already reached the bag as the ball arrived? so if the ball was clearly dropped beFORE the runner reached 3rd, it would have been ruled an error instead of a fielder's choice?

It would have been assumed by the scorer that if the fielder had gone to first, he would have gotten the out, and unless there was a clear 17 up at third, an error is not charged to either player.

So what if the winning run scored on a wild pitch. UT gave up 1 unearned run in 14 innings. I'm as big of a Cohen critic as there is, but you can't take anything away from this win and this sweep.

BTW, I ask again, why hasn't Luis Pollorena been pitching more this year? Faced 9 batters in 3 innings of work. Good to see him get the win.

Even Yellum was bragging on our pitching, but he rightly said we are weak at the plate.

Wow, I agree with Yellum. If I ever agree with Chuck Roundsaville, y'all need to ban me.

he was struggling with his control and his command in the bullpen.

That has been corrected now.

It is a welcome sight to see him back.

We win with pitching and defense. There's no question about that.

Once we add some offense in- which won't happen this year unless we just click all of a sudden and get hot- we will move even further up the ladder in the SEC. All of our injuries have compounded that as well. Daryl Norris limping around, CT barely able to pick his arm up sometimes, Frazier's knee acts up. I'll spare you from "we are so darn close". Hopefully we will be healthy next year, plus we should return most of our team and we will have an experienced veteran lineup.

Our players have had their moments as individuals- but it's pretty rare for us to have a game where everyone clicks.

As it is, we are a middle of the pack SEC team.

I'm not saying we didn't deserve to win. I'm not saying we wouldn't have won if they didn't have the FC (really more of an error) and wild pitch. I'm not saying we didn't pitch the ball GREAT today and this weekend.

What I am saying is that they gave us a gift by doing those two things so that we could score the winning run because throughout the game today we struggled to score and had other opportunities with guys on 2nd and/or 3rd base. So it was a gift from them that they "gave" it to us instead of making us earn it with the hit, sac fly, etc.

Apparently I should have used a different word than "gift".

How often do you play 14 innings without any unearned runs (gifts from the other team)? Nottoo often.
