UCF made the NCAAT in 1994, 1996, 2004 and 2005How is UCF so awful at football/basketball???
They did not win a football game this year, and I do not recall there basketball program ever making the tournament.
It's a school in FL, 60,000 students, etc. etc.
I just looked up their basketball arena and it doesn't look too bad.
Congrats though Johnny, and good luck. You may need it.
I have disagreed with everything aah has said on other threads, but I 100% agree with this. UCF is the 4th or 5th best program in a state that cares way more about football than basketball. Definitely gonna be an uphill battle.UCF football is normally decent. Last year was aberrational.
With that said, as much talent as there is in Florida, UCF's probably #4 or #5 on the list of schools a top athlete will consider attending within the state of Florida -- after UF, FSU, Miami and on par with USF. Couple that with the may SEC/ACC schools that have longstanding recruiting ties to the state -- and it's not as easy as you'd think. While anything is possible in college basketball, I don't think UCF is a particularly good place for a basketball program -- as there's not a ton of tradition, it doesn't play in a major league, the state of Florida is not a particularly fertile place for basketball talent (i.e., it's nowhere comparable to how it is in football), it's still a bit of a commuter school, and people in the region definitely care a lot more about football than basketball. Can you build a solid mid-major program there? Yes, in basketball, a great coach can make any program relevant. With that said, if JD couldn't win big at Stanford, not sure how the task is going to get any easier at UCF.
I'm personally a bit surprised he didn't sit out a year to survey his options. While I'm not sure that he could have done better, I certainly think it's possible.
How is UCF so awful at football...
UCF was a running joke all season on twitter due to there football team. A bar down in the area offered free alcohol for each game until they win. They failed to win a single game this season. What am I missing???Awful in football?
* 7 bowl games since 2005, including 1 BCS bowl
* Produced 36 NFL players, including 5 Pro Bowlers
jwill, do your homework before criticizing. Makes you look real bad.
I live 5 minutes outside of Cincinnati, and all of the UC fans are DESPERATE to join the Big12. This has been a discussion around here since conferences started realigning (2009ish).UCF moved to the Big East in 2013 which became the AAC and they went 15-1 in conference their first 2 seasons with 2 conference championships, a BCS bowl win and a Top 10 AP finish. So they haven't been terrible. But they certainly don't have a long proud history.
There have rumors for awhile now that the Big 12 could scoop up UCF but that idea seems to have been put on hold
