Yes, Iowa is wrestling better than they did during the regular season, which is great to see. It doesn’t negate the issues in the program that have persisted for years now

Agree. It should be no surprise we don’t get the benefit of the doubt from refs. They reward the aggressor, which is often not us. Back in the day we used to get most of the calls and people hated us for it. We were almost always the aggressors. Currently, our guys wrestle tight and appear terrified to lose v. looking for the big points. Do they have a sports psychologist working with them?
LOL, I wouldn't have even posted that if I wasn't called out by the ignorant "peaking" comment. Look, they all lost to better wrestlers. But, that doesn't mean they didn't wrestle to the best of their abilities against superior opponents.

What are those specific issues? They have been wrestling very well in all positions throughout the entire tournament. The ONLY issue I see is that some other teams have some TRULY elite wrestlers.
Again, the 3 guys they lost to are a combined 66-1. The guy Blaze lost to just DESTROYED the defending NCAA Champ.
The ONLY thing I see is they aren't consistently getting the Forrest level guys since Lee, and losing Bassett really cost them that. The deficiency isn't how they guys have been wrestling, they are simply losing to more talented, ELITE wrestlers.
It's discouraging for the sport of wrestling, though, every time we watch a Penn State wrestler win.
It's not something to be celebrated, like some are doing, just because it's "good wrestling".
That was a fantastic match to watch. SVN's ability to pull these matches out late this year has been impressive, if often ugly.

They have actually scrambled VERY well the entire tournament. In fact, this has probably been the best scrambling as a group that I have seen from a Brands team and that and not getting all their guys to March healthy has been my 2 biggest knocks on them...

Did they wrestle well? Yes
Did Iowa recruit and/or train them to be a higher seed, win the close matches, win championships. No.
4 schools brought in a freshman at 133 and trained them to be better than our returning two time national runner up. What weight did Iowa do that at outside of Spencer in the last 10 yrs?
Our guys wrestling hard and up to seed (no #1s) is not the standard.
Doesn’t take away from the young men wrestling their hearts out and me cheering like crazy for them.
Yep and they need to figure out how to win those recruiting battles if they have any hope of catching up to PSU. Bassett situation seems like it was out of Tom’s hands. Not an easy fix by any means but if they want to get back on top they’ll have to figure out a way
Wow, so I point out that ALL 3 lost CLOSE matches to guys that combine to 66-1 and that is the stretch you make? A top end administrator can easily identify what people are capable of and go from there. Unless you are responsible for their hiring as well, there is a limit to what you can get from someone. You just have to know if they are producing close to that limit and if that production is getting the job done. It isn't rocket science and your leap to that may be on par with Interstellar travel...
