Dean wrestled his rear end off and had some incredible defense and scrambling to get out of several takedown attempts even turning one into a possible takedown on the edge. Lilledahl is REALLY good in all positions...

Yep. There is ref discretion if the offensive wrestler doesn’t put himself there. Usually they statemate in that scenario though.
Luke rolled and escaped. Not the best coaching, imo. He should have not deferred but chose down while having the most energy.
I hear ya, but Peterson's best skillset on bottom is some form of sitout/roll. Luke is pretty good at mat returns, so I am sure he thought his best chance to get out in 10 seconds was to sit and clear his hips...
