Two things determined this game:

1) Our defense is weak on the edges. We have cornerbacks that try hitting people down instead of wrapping up and tackling. Saban saw this, so they attacked our corners with bubble screens. The tell-tale sign that he knew this was a weakness is when they lined up Ingram out there and threw him a bubble screen. On 2 occasions, they fended off our attempts to hit them down and ran to the endzone. These 2 big plays were insurmountable because....

2) We have no vertical passing game. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in this in year 2 of the Mullen era. We can throw stuff to the outside. Noting over the middle. And nothing downfield. I'm sick of this Croom characteristic in our team.

Relf's one deep throw was awful. But even more awful was Bumphis' non-attempt at catching the ball. So I think half the problem is not having playmaking receivers. The other half is not having a QB we can trust to throw the football. Hopefully both of those get better next year with Relf & Russell (this man needs PT!!) having more experience.

Overall, what I saw out of our team was the same 4-5 running plays and some short outside throws. Its a movie I've watched for, what 7 years now? Absolutely sickening.

At least the defense is decent. Weak on the corners, but otherwise decent. Its not like Bama's offense dominated except for the big plays I mentioned. They didn't march up and down the field controlling tempo or the clock. We simply lost because the couple of big plays and not having any passing game of our own.

3 missed tackles was the difference in the game.I believe it was Brumfield all 3 times (although he wasn't the only one who missed tackles on those plays).

Offensively, I think we're going to be looking at a 2-4 man free for all for the starting QB spot in spring practice. I don't think Mullen wants to go into 2011 with Relf as his starting QB unless Relf has made some major improvements in his game.

we had 2 DBs out there and while one got blocked the other just kind of stood there with no real attempt to tackle and so Ingram just took off. Guess I will write it off to Bell's passing but no doubt our player's minds and efforts weren't fully into the game last night. Too many mental mistake pre-game penalties, total lack of intensity on defense with poor tackling technique, lack of concentration on catching the football, etc. I expect us to give a much better effort next week at home but I'm still not sure if it will be enough. We will probably need at least 30 points to win next week and our offense is not showing much firepower right now.
