Redwine65 has posted a video of Brent Pry former VT head coach in another thread. Former PSU defensive coordinator recently fired by VT. Does redwine65 know something or is he just a mindless fool like the rest of us?

Not sure on this specific thing, but Redwine has known some things well before they were announced before. Enough that I definitely always pay attention when he throws something out there.

Now that would be a home run hire, Penn State's defenses were always great when he was DC there. Surprised he didn't do better at VT but maybe he's one of those coaches that is more suited to be a coordinator than a head coach.

The new DC will get lots of praise when he's hired.

Just like Butler got exactly 1 year ago.

Fans are generally optimistic on newbies.

great commentary here

they bring up a great point, that if you hire a home run defense coordinator, he will probably be first in line for the fans to call for him to replace Rhule after next year's brutal schedule.

something to consider

There is no world where Pelini comes back. If he did - I could see him doing worse than LsU time just to stick it to UNL again 🤣
that's not the way Bo rolls, but I agree, he likely has zero interest in it.. but he does fit the bill as far as developing guys. I'm not sure Bo would run another scheme though, as he had problems with defending the run for a couple years as well.

That video also has some good information on why Rhule may already know who he is going after, but can't say anything because the next guy is probably prepping for a bowl or maybe the playoff.

It was interesting that the press asked Rhule if he needed any help with the hire, and Rhule kind of poo poo'd that idea real quick, so he's not about to take suggestions it seems on the defensive side of the ball.

I'll be that guy. I was not optimistic. I saw what he did with the DBs and saw what he did at Penn State as a DC.

For me it was more about why no one was willing to give him another chance as DC. 1 year as playcaller. At that point you may as well hire some young guy because it isn't like you are getting a brilliant defensive playcaller or someone with experience.

Toledo DC sounds interesting.

Vince Kehres - Toledo defense ranked second in total defense and top five in points per game, yards per game, points per play, and yards per play. Toledo also ranked third in yards allowed per rush. His pass defense held offenses to just a 48.4% completion percentage. That's the lowest completion percentage nationally. Yes, all of this is at a lower level of competition, but he also produced four NFL draft picks in six years at Toledo. Prior to being the DC at Toledo, he was a D3 head coach at his alma-mater where he went 95-6 over his 7 years there, with 6 conference titles and 2 national championships.

Looks like he'd fit right in with the B1G...

Weird that he would go from being a very successful HC to a DC. Wonder why no one took a chance on him at HC.
